Thanks! It was a pleasure meeting you, hanging out and sampling all the gear! It is fun for me becasue when I am the one playing it is too easy to be subjective as to a bass, cab, and amp’s sound. It is easier for me to be objective about the sound and to be able to sit there and make any subtle adjustments needed when someone else is playing. I did think that once I handed you a Dingwall that you woud find it difficult to put down. It is not-so-subtle marketing haha. And kudos to your wife who patiently waited for us to go through the different gear combinations and talk bass, very supportive!

To all you Dingwallians: Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and best wishes for the enjoyment of any tradition you celebrate!

Odin and his 8 legged Horse Spleipner dropped off a set of reference studio monitors under our Tree, for me! Now I can record my NG3 and know relative levels.

If you are in a gift tradition or you believe in either Reindeer or Sleipner the 8 legged horse, did you get or give any music related items? A new Dingwall bass anyone? I know at least one Christmas NG3 is out there.

I love them over the Schaller locks I have been using for many years. No more metal on my strap to have to be careful about when loading into bag or putting it on, no moving parts and most important it holds the strap closer to the Bass body holding the cable tight. And can be used with any strap.

With the Schaller and others there is a gap between wood and strap where the cable just slides around instead of being pressed against the body when looped through, this was a problem with the Dingwall. The cable kept pulling tight putting stress on the jack. Not anymore.

Was wondering if folks here knew if there were any places to really see the different finish options for different Dingwall basses when trying to order a new one now that the old galleries have gone away on the new site?

@Sheldon D. could we get those back somehow? They were really useful when trying to figure out the overwhelming number of finish options your basses have now.

Getting curious enough to give the fanned fret thing another try. Wondering about NG-2 vs NG-3 5-string thoughts (since that's what mainly seems to be available at the moment). I originally though 3 pickups would give a bit more flexibility but one of the (few) youtube demos with a clean sound had an NG2 sounding like a pissed-off P-bass, which is one of my favorite sounds. It was the previous version though. Mostly I like the pickup switching on the NG-2 (being able to have neck-only) vs the switching for the NG-3.

I haven’t tried an NG-3 , they sound cool in demos I’ve heard. & you can get a mod to give them 6 pickup position options instead of 4.

That said I LOVE my NG-2 !! Lots of great sound options & the neck feels amazing & great playability !!
So I guess I’m saying you can’t go wrong with an NG -2

I’m quite happy with my D Bird. It can solo the middle pu and get a decent “P” sound. I think there’s some sonic similarities with the NG series but I’m not sure how close they are. I tend not to use the all three pickups setting , but I like each of the other three settings.

I found this video and *really* like the sound he's getting out of it. That's what has me leaning NG2 vs 3. Most videos have dirt and/or pick and/or slap. Which is ok, but not how I primarily play.

No Dingwalls under the tree here although I keep thinking any day now!!!

To my fortune this Christmas I did end up with a strymon DIG delay which is very exciting and I got my son a EH Canyon which he seems pretty happy about.

I love my Canyon. I mainly use it for one effect (shimmer) right now, but I've used it with a few different songs to add a nice drone like swell when the song is slow and you're playing the same root for 8+ measures.

You still have the same mode on the NG3. The neck pickup on the 2 is the middle on the 3. They can be soloed on both basses. :)
