UPS notifies me that delivery of my large package has moved from 12/28 to 1/2.

Can you have it rerouted to your closest UPS facility for pickup? Sometimes the carriers will still drop off stuff at their local facilities, even if they won't bring it to your house...

Was wondering if folks here knew if there were any places to really see the different finish options for different Dingwall basses when trying to order a new one now that the old galleries have gone away on the new site?

@Sheldon D. could we get those back somehow? They were really useful when trying to figure out the overwhelming number of finish options your basses have now.

I feel your pain. However, we took down photos of basses that have discontinued options. It was causing a ton of confusion leaving old spec basses up on the site.

Makes sense. Maybe you could have a discontinued folder or something so we can still appreciate the Dingwall history.

I understand the headaches it can cause you though......especially considering I’m certain I have been one!

If I do get the privilege of doing a custom one more time in this lifetime it would be a lot more streamlined on my end now after going through this last one.

"Crazy" is the operative word here. Wait for a used SP or Combustion and make it as pink as you can stand it...

Do you think that the "vintage" tone on the Super J/Super P has much to do with the scale length? I have been looking up a lot of demos of the super series and have been wondering what the basses would sound like with an extended scale length like the NG/Afterburner/Z/Prima basses. Or if it wouldn't make any difference at all.

I'm curious if Sheldon and the crew did any experiments on the super series with the extended scale length?

Anyone have experience with the super series and the extended scale length basses like the NG/Z/Prima? How do the B strings compare?

I do think that part of the vintage sound is the scale length. I don't have an NG, Z or Prima, but do have Combustion (v1 with mods) and Afterburners as well as a SJ5 (P/J) and SP5 (P/J). The B-strings on the Super series basses are decent/good and consistent with the sound of the basses overall while the 32" G is nice and punchy. I have yet to hear a better B-string than the 37" scale Dingwall's.

Yes.

I can't speak for the Super series but I have a ABZ3 5er with P pickup in the neck position and it definitely has the roundest sound soloed of all 3 pickups.

Everyone was out tonight so I threw this together based on a demo I got sent by my bandmates.
Three Dingwalls all with a P-tone or P pickup soloed (the SPJ) and because it's sitting here a $199 cheap as chips Ibanez Gio.
Signal path is Spectracomp (default setting and at about 9 o'clock so barely on), Alpha Omega Ultra (eq only and set pretty much flat) to interface. I play with a pick pretty much all the time in this band so that's the only sound I did, also recorded this really quickly so the levels are a bit all over the shop as is the playing.

Here you go, all P-Tones in different scales: 1 is an ABZ with fresh nickels, 2 is a Combustion with broken in nickels, 3 is a Super PJ with TI flats. No cab sims or any other processing than the pedal chain and the gain staging is out of whack but you get the idea.
They all sound P-bassy to me, there is a difference in sound but they all have different strings, preamps etc.
If what you're getting at is 'can you get a vintage sound from a long scale and can you get a modern sound from the super series' the answer to both is yes, they lean more the other way naturally but both are very versatile.

I won't repeat what others have said, but will add that it's not only the 37" B string that defines the long scale Dingwall sound, but the 36.25" E string and the 35.5" A string, both of which are longer than any string on the Super models or any other single scale bass commonly available.
