Don't know if it applies here, but when I switched strings (to flats that are slightly lower gauges), I had some rattle buzz in the first 3-4 frets. Action was crazy low. A slight adjustment to the truss rod took care of it. Granted, in this situation I had reduced core nickels on previously which have a bit more tension.

thanks, no, that is not fret buzz. Truss rod is setup correctly, the string height too. And it just doesn't sound like fret buzz. It is not zingy buzz, it is sort of whisper "frrrrrr" sound on top of string base tone.

Try another set of new strings. I had this exact thing happen with a brand new B straight outta the pack...different brand which replaced it instantly. But it can be the string. worst case you have a back up set.

every once in a while a string is defective.

I’ve had this happen before with a Kalium .136. It may be that one of the windings has come loose from the others. In my case, it was subtle enough to be unnoticeable plugged-in.

Bought it without ever trying fanned fret. Never looked back after that.

I just checked my records and my ABI5 cost me $1600 (US) in 2005. Even though I could probably sell it for more now, every time I think I have too many basses and should cull the herd, I think I would never be able to replace it for what I have into it. Plus, when I hold it, it brings me joy every time!

I was looking through the Dingwall website. That Prima Artist is really something but expensive ($16,500CAD / approximately 12,400USD per xe.com). Does one exist in the wild? I mean, does a TalkBass user have one of these?

My wife bought me the book last Christmas. The problem with removing clutter is, if everything sparks joy, then you are no better off than when you started!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and guess that I'm the first, and only, person who's ever told Dingwall, "I don't need 'em that quick."...BAHAHAHA!

Lemme briefly explain. I made a couple of edits to my order and I was waiting to hear if A. They'd been approved, and B. How much more they were gonna cost. Got an email from my dealer(I'll leave that there, LOL!)today that some of the edits had been approved(not all), and he was still waiting on a price. He then informed me that my 5's and my 6 would be done in October, but my 4 would be later. I told him to tell Sheldon and crew that they could hold off on the 5's & 6 and just finish them whenever the 4 is ready.

I may come to regret that. Right now, I'm ok with it, but I'm still pondering it.
