From the dingwall website.

1 key factor to remember about the ABZ is lightweight! Not just ash but selected lighter weight ash bodies.

Yup. There's a few ABZs with nice tops on the website-

They need a few more pics on the website...drooldrool:thumbsup:drooldrool

I really love this bass! It's just so...YOWZA! I'd have one almost just like it, but I didn't think the Trans White would look as good with the Maple/Wenge neck as it does with the Maple/Maple neck.

I need a few more pics of that bass, please!!

It was on the Dingwall site a while ago; so I pinched their pics.

I agree with @ab

This recent purchase of mine was advertised as an AB II. Not sure what it is frankly. But it doesn't have any F holes. And the body is bubinga over walnut.

At the time, the Afterburner I's were like the early ABZ's - no options with the exception of a flamed top. Bodies were alder, necks maple and wenge fingerboards. Passive. By keeping the options down, it would reduce costs.

The Afterburner II's had more "exotic" woods and were solid bodied. They didn't have poly finishes and had active electronics. Mine is a 2004 and has a mahogany body, bubinga neck and top and wenge fingerboard with an 18V Aguilar OBP-1 preamp (as well as a BluEQube switch and active/passive switch). I later installed a hybrid treble control. I don't think it was too long after that that walnut started replacing mahogany for the standard body wood and bubinga for necks. The BluEQube was also removed after that and the active passive switch was incorporated into the volume as a push-pull switch. I am not sure when the scroll holes became standard in the ABII's. I think that was done mainly to reduce the weight.

The gold Dbird was even more amazing in person! Here’s a pic I stole from Lee (@husky123 ), as I somehow never photographed it.

Yep classic AB-2 v2. The first ones had mahogany instead of walnut. The knobs have been switched out for newer ones.

Well - the Combustion 3X 6 string turned up today, and I just spent a solid 2 hours putting her through her paces. I think I have it for a few days before I need to make a decision on whether to put down the money or not. This is going to be tough...not as easy a decision as I thought it would be. There's been a few things that I'm going back and forth about, but I'm going to sit with it for a few days before I post my thoughts.

I found a shop in germany to do the pickguard for my NG3....now i just need to make up my mind for a color. I hate decisions :D My NG3 is mopar purple.....is a purple pearl (kinda bright) too much? Do you guys have any other nice colorideas which would look nice togeter with the mopar purple?

If you're going custom just go nuts, you could have anything on there like a PCB.
Good call on losing the Adidas stripe.

i will go nuts but i kinda want to keep it decent haha. Purple pearl (almost pink) will do i think. The PCB looks nice but since i am a mechanical engineer this would be more for my brother (electrical engineer), although he can't even play a flute :D
