Anyone tried a Nordymute on an early Combustion? I'm contemplating ordering one, but see I only have about 2cm of clearance between the bridge pickup and the bridge on the G.

Didn't realize they had a blue one. You could always buy the pink one (not me - I'd rather have Tangerine). Haven't had a chance to try one yet. Would love to. Maybe we can all chip in and pass it around.

Tangerine would be great, as would purple. Blue would have been okay. I might have an opportunity to get out there and and try the pink one. I'm curious what the sklar vs Z feel is.

I would think it would be similar, though the mandolin frets will feel different. Not a Sklar, but they are tweaking the purple candy finish:

Is it possible to buy the switches? I should have no problems installing/soldering them in myself. I have not yet looked too deep into the control cavity... if this is an easy solderjob, that'd be nice.

I tried a D-Bird 4 the other day, nice bass. They've really done a great job with the balance. Zero neck dive!

Has anyone tried DR Longnecks on their Dingwall? The website states they have a 37 3/4" length. I thought they might work well since they are tapered also.

I followed along with Dingwalls set up video on Youtube when I got the bass. I don't have the tools (or picks) to do measurements as accurate as he did at the shop, but my eyeball lead me to believe that the action was fine at the lower frets, and that a truss rod adjustment would not be necessary. Accordingly, all my adjustments came at the saddles which are slightly above as low as they can go. When I took them as low as they could go, I got a lot of clank on the lower strings.

I will review Neely's video on right hand technique. I watched his left hand one a few months ago, and his suggestions to my left hand technique came quite naturally (though I still tend to fret hard when I start to get tired).

You can get feeler gauges and a 6" machinists ruler at Canadian Tire for a couple bucks.

IIRC it's double pole on/on mini switches. They're pretty easily available, either two or three depending on if it's a 2 pickup or 3 pickup model. Since it's fitting/drilling the components, I'd personally have someone professionally do it.

I want to do the same to my combustion when it arrives, so I'm very interested in hearing how it turns out!

By the way, a few pages back were some discussion regarding the rotaries on the new NG's and combustions and whether they would have the Dbird schematic, so I emailed Dingwall and:

Combustion and NG models use the same rotary selector. Originally they came with the D-Bird Rotary. We are now in the process of transitioning to the 3X rotary. We haven't received any Combustion/NG basses yet from the factory with the 3X switch but that will be happening soon.

the 3X is the standard bridge/bridge-neck*P/bridge-middle*S/neck

As I expected the combustion stays with the original wiring, I'm surprised to hear the NG is getting it too, though.

Not recommended. The step is too long which creates a strong warbling sound and messes up the intonation.

that actually opens me up more to the NG. I wanted the neck/bridge option out of the pickups. any idea if that is going to start now? i.e. all 2019 basses going forward?
