I’d agree. Starting with the d bird standard. The production basses will quickly surpass the quantity of Canadian 4s if they haven’t already
If you ever decide to keep it stock and sell it instead I'm your man !

But yeah, these basses will definitely make you rethink your whole signal chain, for sure.
I went all in with my six string AB-1 for about 18 months. I’d already owned it for a couple years. I put all the other basses away in hard cases in a closet to make them inconvenient. That’s what it took for me to get it working. Besides the brain rewire of patterns and chords, the biggest issue was muting.

THIS. I guess I could've tried an NG-3/6, but I don't think they were an option a year and a half ago. I, pretty much, went through the same mindset as I did when I ordered my F Bass BNF5 unlined fretless. I'd owned a bunch of really nice fretless basses before, but they always had the lines and the dots. The last fretless I had before my BNF had lines, but no dots. When I finally decided I was gonna spend eleventy bazillion dollars on an F Bass BNF, I struggled with the decision to keep it lined, or put on my big boy britches and do it right, knowing I'd be in this pretty deep if I couldn't play it. I dove into the deep end...and have loved every second playing that bass!
I'm anticipating a similar reaction to the incoming 6er.

Will D’Addario Super Long Scale XL nickels work with a NG-2 4 String ?
The standard D’Addario Long Scale Sets I’ve got around seem to be too short on the E String.
Any other string recommendations ?
Hard rock / metal style and tuned either Drop B or Drop A so need customizable gauges.
I know “Kallium ....” that’s whats on there now and they’re good but then I’ve read soooo many horror stories of their crappy customer service & delivery times not sure I want to open that can of worms.
For reference D’Addario XL’s are what I use on my non Dingwall Basses

Check with Fret Nation they'll be able to tell you the exact winding lengths and put together a set that fits.
I think the winding lengths for some manufacturers are somewhat inconsistent, I have a set of DR pure blues sitting on my desk that will easily fit my D-Bird.

Super longs.
These might work, says 38” to the taper.
I’m not sure on the super longs, but the XL .35 set I just bought were not long enough for the AB-1 four string. I don’t think these were extra long. They just worked on my top load, 35” Cirrus.

I’m on a super light string exploration. .030 Boomers on the Super P. The Xl,s on the Cirrus and DR Pure Blue VW set, .095-.040 on the AB. I have a couple sets of DR nickel lowriders .095-.040, waiting for a turn. I’m going to give the rotosound funkmasters a try, even though they are stainless. I usually stick with nickel.
I’m really liking the super light sets. So easy playing and set up nice and low.
A set of DR Pure Blues just made it to the nut on the AB-1 four string on the E string, that’s a nice set of .40 nickel rounds. The other three strings are more than long enough. And the close shave on the E string might just be good luck.
I’m also going to send you over to Fret Nation. Jason can sell you mixed sets and individual strings, and he knows the Dingwall lengths.
For sure, drop in fit, it is Dingwall and Payson strings.

Kalium gets a lot of grief on here, I know. But in my experience, I've had nothing but stellar customer service. I could list many examples, but the most recent one was last week.
I ordered a set of strings for a new bass build and asked that they be shipped direct to the luthier. Less than 24 hours after placing my order, Skip from Kalium called me and asked if I was SURE about a couple of the string lengths. I had ordered "long" on the E and B strings, and he explained those fit 39" scale lengths. Of course, he was right, I didn't need them that long. He also asked about my build and if the bridge was top loaded or body through. I told him it was "either", so he recommended I ask the luthier to mount the B and E string top loaded, the remainder through the body and I would be more pleased with the results.
He also told me if there was any reason those would not work, or I was displeased with them to call him and he would send me something else.
And I'm not shilling for Kalium, I also buy strings from Sheldon, Payson, FretNation, etc. But for a couple of my basses, only Kalium strings give me the results I want for THOSE basses.
And over the years, yes I've had a shipment delayed, and yes a shipment lost one time, but Kalium always makes good on my order.
IME, YMMV, etc.
I'd echo this. It's been a while since I've ordered from Kalium, but all my orders were shipped and arrived quickly - along with some good customer service help on questions. I know they have a bad rap around TB, but I haven't had a negative experience.
