I would love to have one of the black anodized guards like on the DG anniversary, but minus the graphic... I’m not holding my breath on that ever being available, so I’ll probably go the route you did and stealth out my black NG.

I've decided to keep my ABHS. After the initial nostalgia over the P5 died down, it wasn't as tempting anymore. At least for the now. A friend of mine owns it, and I have an open offer on it.

There will however be nickel strings coming, and possibly a swap to FDV pickups, as well as trying out Kalium strings for G#-standard tuning.

I wonder, out of curiosity, if Dingwall has a larger percentage of custom build requests for 6-Strings than some other builders. My thought is regarding percentage, not volume.

Their 5 string percentage must be way higher than their 4 strings and that's probably much different than most builders too.

I decided to just cover the spread and ordered a 4, a 5 , and a 6...

I think committed 6 string players haven’t often had the chance to play a 6 string FF bass yet and perhaps are hesitant to make the large investment without any possible trial first. Perhaps as the combustion 6ers start to become more common for folks to investigate at a lower cost that might then open it up further. Just guessing of course. I know when I was hoping to find a 6 string Z there was only one available across many platforms and even then, it wasn’t, but then it was, than it came home.
I was nervous as I was trying to graduate with commitment to a 6 string and didn’t know how I would feel about it once I had it.

Needless to say, after that I have now spec’d 2 custom 6 string builds. I’m not sure if I would have ever pulled the trigger without the “trial” bass.(which is still my main jamming bass since)

I believe I read on the site that they do not offer the Z line in a 4 string anymore.

I’d say the most Dingwall 4s I’ve seen have been of the supers and quite a few ABZ 4s.

I'm not gonna kid you, I wake up in cold sweats thinking about the fact that, not only did I order a 6-string bass, but I ordered a FANNED-FRET 6-string bass!

Seriously though, this will be my first, personal, 6-string. A couple of my buds play 6ers and I've played theirs, but I've never felt the call to own one until early last year when one of yous guys said that Dingwalls really shine when it comes to 6ers. I kinda took that and ran with it. I'll be surprised if my ABZ 6/3 becomes my main bass, but then again, I won't be surprised if it becomes my main bass. I've been playing 5's for so long that they just feel natural to me. Having said that, I am digging having a 4-string around to make Drop-D stuff way more fun and easy. I still look at 6ers with morbid curiosity. But, I have it in my head that this is gonna be a positive game changer for me and my bass playing.

I'm not gonna kid you, I wake up in cold sweats thinking about the fact that, not only did I order a 6-string bass, but I ordered a FANNED-FRET 6-string bass!

A couple of my buds play 6ers and I've played theirs, but I've never felt the call to own one until early last year when one of yous guys said that Dingwalls really shine when it comes to 6ers. I've been playing 5's for so long that they just feel natural to me. Having said that, I am digging having a 4-string around to make Drop-D stuff way more fun and easy. ...Could be worse...you could have ordered a fretless fanned 6.

I honestly think it'll take more time to get used to the 6th string. Fanned frets feel odd for all of 5 seconds.

For me, the transition from 5 to 6 was much faster and easier than from 4 to 5. And you have the benefit of less hand movement up and down the neck with a 6. I have said here before, 6 strings and Dingwall are a match made in heaven. Equal tension and tone on each string is especially important when you get up to 6 (or more) strings. The tension on the 33" C string perfect and it is a joy to play. And the ergonomics of fanned frets on a 6 makes it easier to play than a monoscale. You will grow as a player if you put the time into it.

It's either a scam or it's one dealer using multiple accounts to try to get a hit. I have seen that many times and it all comes from Japan. I'd say stay away unless you're actually in Japan and can meet in person to buy it.

All those ads could be from differnt people. In Japan, people list basses that are available in local stores. If somebody buys the bass from their ad, they just go down and pick it up, pocketing the difference.

I’d say the most Dingwall 4s I’ve seen have been of the supers and quite a few ABZ 4s.

I wouldn't be surprised if the amount of Combustion 4-strings is near or has surpassed the number of 4-string ABZs. Heck, it is probably just a matter of time before the 4-string Combustions eventually outdo the Super Line.

I dont own the Geddy version anymore - kinda regret it - but every time i consider selling the other two, i play them. Then say NOOOOOPE. Not ready yet lol. Its a sickness i think

After I played a 5-String for a very long time, I went from 5- to 6-String within one hour of sitting down with it. I slightly adjusted my thumb position on the back of the neck, and familiarized myself with the fingerboard, note positions, discovering alternate chord inversions.

I have yet to try a fanned fret bass, and I have been following this thread for awhile, so I feel the DAS. I have a custom build in my mind for the future.

Agreed. Stay away from the eBay markup resellers. The actual link from the store in Japan was posted a few pages back by @BuffaloBob4343

I planned to do the same to my Ferrari Green NG2. Already ordered the Dingwall custom knobs, but each hipshot tuner is $75...that's $375 to exchange 5 "as-new" tuners is a bit...dunno, painful. I don't even want to think how much it will be for the bridge pieces.

It probably depends on if you're a player who 'orients' yourself on the G string v. the B string when it comes to how you think about what you're playing. I tend to 'base' my thinking on the lower string rather than the upper string.

Yup. Exactly this. It’s not the fan that was a concern it was the expensive commitment to the larger neck of a six string.
