I have the Payson RCs too. I find them a good middle ground between nickels (warm) and stainless steel (aggressive). Sounds like you'd like the SSs.

Probably another option, that's less cost effective, is to switch your pre to the DG.

If you're into doing the wiring, you won't need Mo or his shop. You can order the 3x from Dingwall directly, I believe. Might get you to put a 3x in for me, while you're at it (if you were closer).

Have you tried the Dingwall stainless steels?? I find them to have a nice, somewhat dark and compressed tone to them that growl quite nicely on my AB1. They settle in quickly and last a long time. They also have a bit less tension, which I really like.

It's called our 3X switch. It's a drop in replacement. Have your local tech contact us. Sorry, I was thinking you were in California close to Mo. A local tech - as long as they are good - can handle the swap.

I'm allll the way over In Florida, close to Tampa! I moved from IL a couple years ago, and no, I'm not retired:rolleyes:, far from it.
I can handle the swap myself, just been waiting on the e-mail for the pickup, plate and switch.

I do everything on my gear, except for routing work (holes are OK) and fret work aside from a little clean and polish and truss setup.

I flat out refuse to use Stainless, I have OCD with fret wear- even if it's a non-issue I would be afraid to play.

If yours comes with the wiring diagram, would you mind taking a shot of it? I'm having a devil of a time getting the diagram.

Dude. You will see fret wear on a multi scale bass. It’s unavoidable and it’s not a big deal.

This coming from a guy who BABIES his basses.
My first Dingwall was a beauty AbII which I loved for 6ish? years. Upon acquiring my first Z I decided, for financial reasons, to part with.

The bass had fretwear as I rocked that thing with SS strings the entire time. No buzz. I asked Sheldon about it and was willing to pay for a refret if required and he made the mention that it’s no big deal unless there was an audible reason.
Anyways, 3-4 years later and that bass still has not had a refret by its present keeper.... and he plays it very regularly.

Bottom line is the appearance made me question it and my concern wasn’t valid at that time.

It’s GOING to happen with the angled frets. Accept it. And don’t stress it. Just love playing it.

I don't care how they look so long as it works, I just fear the dreaded divots you can feel on bends and buzz that follows. Even though it may be a non-issue.
It's probably more of an issue with guitars with tiny surface area and constant bending.

I have some Payson reduced cores to try, but I was enjoying playing today, starting to sound better as the strings break in.
