I don't have those issues with my Amplug Bass. It is dead silent, unless you crank the treble to the max. Is yours a mark I or II? I'm very happy with the sound of it, considering the cost and size.

I have a boss GT-1B.
Its cool, but the headphone out is weak. On the plus side, you can hook it up to one of those portable boom boxes, instant practice amp.

Anyone in the club happen to have two sets of dingwall branded SS long scale 5 string sets they don't want? All I have are Nickles and want to put SS on a couple of my Dingwalls

The Backbeat and the DSM OmniCabSim are both great options. They are way over $75, but you get what you pay for.
I use an OCS with a portable 9V battery pack (just 2 batteries in parallel), and it's fantastic.
Used Zoom Multi fx are cool, but some don’t have an aux in, only usb. So you are tied to your computer.
I had a nice Yamaha mixed that served as a practice hub for years Under $100.
Using a Line 6 hd500x now. Great headphone sound through inexpensive in ear monitors.
I run a beat buddy six in, computer via usb. Super nice unit, but considerable learning curve.

Oh my God, just put some Payson reduced cores nickel steel, I love the sound and feel 2 fold! So much more bawls and better more even tension.
Took only a 1/16 turn of the truss to bring it back, and just a little flattening of the intonation on the EDG strings.
I just played the dookie out of it!
And yes, I have that much OCD that the ball ends must be lined up or else I die a little inside.

String twins! Mine were lined up when I put them on, but now they aren't!?!?! Better that, than to have twisted strings, I guess?

It’s annoying how great-sounding and gig-worthy a 22-watt guitar amp can be.
And my amp and cab combined are probably less than 75#, so my amp certainly isn’t real the way that an SVT is, that’s for sure...
The trick is to put a lollipop stick in the ball, and keep tension on the string as you wind, adjust a tad while a little loose and then tune it up, wastes extra time, but it just looks legit to me.
I had those strings for 2 months before I got the Dingwall, I pre-ordered a B-1005 MS and bought those, the LTD went back got 2 examples both with quality issues and in the end, while it sounded good, was more like wrestling with a giraffe than playing a bass.
I'm glad I didn't wait any longer to put them on, world of difference.
I have a D-Bird on order that was scheduled for November. I was told the order will be a D-Roc instead. (I'm good with that.) I haven't been told of any change in the schedule as a result.
Well this was unplanned... I wasn't planning on picking up a new SuperJ 5, but I also didn't plan on one being available a little over an hour away. This thing is mint. Guy said he only played it a couple of times in church and at home. It shows!! Only 10 months old. Wenge neck and pearl blocks... It's a sweet machine. Pretty sure this is the same bass that is on the Dingwall homepage when you click on the SuperJ section. DAS is in full swing...

Man that's a hot axe. I'd be incredibly tempted to put a gold pickguard on that thing.
Yeah... I'm not a big fan of solid black either, but the Matte finish black is pretty nice & different.
I will, but I still haven't heard a peep about ordering it.

For silent practice and lonely business hotel nights I always have a Tascam GT-R1 in my gigbag or case. They are sadly no longer in production. I had to repair it numerous times and also had it repaired twice before warranty expired, but this is still the best €€€ I've yet spent on music gear. Poor build quality is a problem sadly, but the features are so good. If I carry around a bass plus case/bag, I don't really mind the cable tbh... I have a short one, about 1m. Long enough so I can see the display while playing.
This little thing uses standard SD cards, you can play all mp3 and wav and some other formats on it. You can slow the playalong tracks down, you can create loops to practise hard sections, you can even overdub playalong tracks... then later hear what you played. This was truly enlightening
"It all felt so good while playing, how can it sound so untight?!" definitely changed my playing. Yeah, you can also have that with a DAW and a computer, and a sound interface etc, but this is so much easier. I have created most of my basslines for my bands using this little helper.
The GT-R1 also has effects and amp sims built in, but they are rather meh. The Ampeg SVT simulation is actually pretty good. While it sound like poo played solo, played to a rock song it really shines. It sounds like many 90's grunge or rock bass tones, compressed and thick.
It also has a good drum machine built in with dozens of different beats to play to. You can of course also use drum tracks as mp3...
And then it has that feature to erase the bass parts of a song, leaving a gaping hole in the upper bass and lower mid register of the song. On some songs you can't hear the bass drum pulse any more, but on most it's still feel- and audible. Very nice if you don't have a proper playalong track.

Not sure... because of this purchase, I now need to move a couple of other items. I had just purchased a D-bird Standard. It's now for sale. I was in trade only mode on my other SuperJ 5 but might sell it now. I have been tempted by a trade for an AB-1 though.I was leaning more towards a 4 string SuperJ with 3 pickups.
