Yeah! It changed EVERYTHING for me! I picked it up and walked out of the store significantly poorer then I had ever been from music gear at that point in my life. This bass was a turning point in my playing, my passion, and my bank account. Ultimately I sold off everything non Dingwall at that time aside from my acoustic. Sure wish the Dingwall zero (I think it was called) would be an available option.
Id love to still have that AB.
Yeah the Z would be my dream bass, but I'm far away from deserving one let alone affording one- you shouldn't buy a Ferrari if you don't know how to drive.

Is importing and exporting rosewood that problematic now? I was under the impression that those issues were more in furniture size and quantities.
It’s not really that bad dependant on the countries involved. Exporting out of Canada (depending on wood source I’m sure) is quite simple. Print a form off submit it and wait for approval but the bottom line is it does take more time and effort. Which is just that much more of a PITA

The Combustion is more than enough bass for me, I actually dig it's pick-guard aesthetics, the only thing I'm not totally keen on is the maple FB and unpainted headstock, if they could custom make me a Wenge neck that would be awesome.
Dark Pau Ferro, like what they use on current F-415 LTD's is really nice, dark,swirly and ebony smooth, I just don't like the light open grained stuff I saw on a current model B-1005, looked like crap. Still hunting for a 2016 model B-1005 MS- that model can actually hold a candle to the Combustion in terms of quality and sound, the new model (Indonesia) simply doesn't.

I like the Ferrari. And I want to drive it. So the fulfillment of personal interests and desires is what we are talking about right? Not being better then the guy beside you.
Either way, the combustion lines are awesome and it’s wicked that you’ve got one. I think the original point was to enjoy it and love it.
However, if you want custom stuff you’ll be looking at Canadian models or mods done on your own accord.
I was eyeing Dingwalls when I got back into bass, but I held off, got a few budget basses, sold them, got a couple mid level basses at prices I can make profit on used sold all but two of those. Finally my Combustion popped up at a price I could stomach and love the thing, it just fits me.
Yes, I may be overly protective, but it was very difficult for me to actually buy one as I feel like I don't deserve it.
I'ts actually better for my wallet however as I don't ogle at normal basses any more, only thing I might want is a B-1005 MS, an Ormsby or a NG3- none of them exorbitantly priced.
The Ormsby in Violent crumble looks dead sexy, but good luck finding one.

Yeah. That is the great thing about not settling and going for what you want.... you lose interest in all the mediocre things you might of wasted money on before
I do that with everything, always ends up chewing away more money and more time than getting what I want in the first place. I never learn it seems.

Just fyi: The Vox Amplug will fit in the recessed jack of a Combustion. You gotta go straight in as pictured and it helps to turn it on before inserting (avoid wearing the headphones at the time so you don't blow your eardrums).
To be frank the Amplug is pretty meh. A bit thin sounding with a good dose of hiss, and the built-in drum machine is a laughingstock of Casio proportions. But it's super small and you can plug in your smartphone for play alongs.

I have one of those, sounds absolutely terrible- mine might be defective.

I don't think the Amplugs are very reliable. I had a student that went through multiples of them. I asked why he kept buying them and he said they were cheap and there wasn't a ton of options.
You could probably score a used Mackie or Behringer micro mixer for that price.
It’s more to carry, but the sound quality and flexibility are infinitely better.
Another alternative is a small Zoom pedal like the B1 four. That's $80 at Sweetwater new. Or try and find one used to bring it in budget. They're not perfect, but the cheap multi fx units sound so much better than when I started playing about 20 years ago and will be orders of magnitude better than an amplug.
It'll supposedly last 18 hours on 4 AA batteries or can be powered by 9V/USB bus.
Yeah, you need to carry a cable but you have a tuner built in, so that's something else not to carry.
