Anyone in the market for a D-Bird standard and / or a set of black hipshot hardware?
The bridge pieces are USA hipshot dingwall style and are difficult to get hold of.
Tuners are LIC ultraltes.
I have the original hardware as well.

How much are you asking for the Bird? Any blemishes/wear?

Does the black replacement bridge pieces bolt straight on? Was looking at doing the same to my D-bird...

Who wants to help me spec an order?

I currently own a chinese D-bird. Got a taste of the dingwall's now, it's time to order a full-blown Canadian model.

My conundrum is that I can't decide between a D-Roc or an Afterburner. Would absolutely love a Z3 but it's a little out of my price range.

I know D-Roc 5 strings are coming in the Chinese model next year, so I'm thinking afterburner? Or should I just got a wild D-Roc? They do look oh so cool.....

Options I've decided on so far:
- Speedobars
- Drop tuner on B string
- Wenge neck

Nice bass...and pic. You really can't beat these basses in terms of tone and flexibility. Weight is a huge bonus with my AB5. It's my lightest bass at around 7lbs. I can play that one all night with no back issues the next morning.

Thanks! Yeah... they definitely can’t be beat! 7 lbs is feather light. Mine aren’t that light but I will still take the 8 lbs that both my SJ4 & AB-1 4 weigh. My SJ5 is the heaviest at 9 lbs. I wish it was lighter, but it’s still manageable.

It's such a personal decision, really. If you already have a D-Bird and are considering a 5 string next year, I'd lean towards a new AB or a used Z, personally. The Wenge neck is a bit hefty of an option, but SO worth it. Depending on finish, you may want to go with the blacked out heel and headstock look on an AB.

Another point. Secondhand Dingwalls hold their value pretty well, so if you pick up a user Afterburner, you aren't going to lose very much if you flip it upon deciding to go with the Roc (but you'd hold onto it for the 18 month order/build process).

And because Afterburners have been around for a while, they're much more plentiful secondhand (although not super super common)

Super solid resale values and usually, more demand than availability.

Good deals go quickly.

I went through the same thing, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Exploder from Knightro guitars.
What I settled on
Black limba body Odie's oil finish (Limba is known to have a mahogony- adler tone- mid heavy)
Bocote fretboard (wild light cream and dark chocolate grain, rosewood tone, ebony feel- slightly brighter than rosewood tone) with Pearloid dots.
5 Pc Wenge Neck (very heavy stuff, but amazing feel and attack)
Black-chorme hardware.
Nordstrand Big single and P5 (basically a P-J on roids) and Nordstrand 2 band A/P pre-amp

But it all depends on what you want, I want a very aggressive, mid heavy bass with a crazy natural wood grain.

If I was kitting together a D-Roc I would get-

Wenge neck, Macassar ebony, offset oval abalone dots, Metallic Sage green finish, matte black hardware.
And if possible, Limba body.

One time I reported something, took forever, they couldn't speak English and then to top it off they suspended MY account! Someone tried buying out of ebay with an obvious scam, so I called- guess that's what happens when you are a good Samaritan.

Other than the width at the nut, how would you compare the neck profiles of a Super P vs SJ 4 string?

Comparing my '09 SJ4 to my '13 SP4, the SP is slightly more rounded and deeper, giving it a little more meat and heft. The difference is slight but noticeable. I love both carves.

My early Super J 4 had a very slim and narrow neck. The Super P is wider and more inline with the AB necks.

Looking at the spec sheets, the necks are very similar in dimension, just the scale changes.

My Super J 5 had more roll over at the fret board, a very nice feel.

I really like my Super P 4 with the Birdseye maple board. Compared to the AB, it feels very fast and compact. I’ve always said I noticed the string spacing going from the Supers to the AB. Now that all my basses are 19mm spacing, I really notice scale length when I go to the Super P from the AB or Cirrus. The Super P is like ripping it up on a short scale. Really fun!

Good call. Don't see too many for sale on reverb!

I missed out on a Lee Sklar for a good price recently....ah well.

At least 18 month build time gives me time to save $$ haha
