Thanks, I been following the "pickguard/no-pickguard" discussion, for me it'll be 3 choices.
1. No guard but my OCD may not tollerate the screws? and I know I will need a "dummy" mid PU
2. Clear pickguard, this will also require the dummy mid PU
3. Put on a black-pearl guard, I have a "thing" about these.
For now though it looks lovely enough but needs a bit of setting up time spent on her as I favour a quite low action. They don't come with batteries now so I need to get 2x 9v batts, passive sounds good though.

Say again? I've never had an active bass that showed up with NO BATTERIES. I've had some(most) that came with crap batteries, never one that showed up without batteries...
Congrats on the bass. You should probably start making room for at least two more...

Dingwall no longer ships the basses with batteries. We do ship our basses with batteries.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, It's not a big deal, most basses that I've owned, even the very high end ones, had crap batteries. Some I didn't worry about, some I changed immediately. OTOH, it's a battery! That doesn't seem to lead to a good customer experience when you plug in your multi-$k bass for the first time, and get nothing.
Bless you for putting batteries in your basses before you ship them to customers, but that seems like a weird thing to leave out.
It is annoying and tight-fisted of Dingwall and the dealer to supply a new bass without batteries.
Not being warned about it first is also annoying because I would have had the opportunity to go get some batteries first.

This may just be, and I think it is, a new USA customs requirement. I cant imagine a dealer would not include them as we do have to test the basses before we ship them to customers. I was a bit shocked at the price increase. I just purchased over $100 of batteries.
The batteries are not lithium, rechargeable or spillable, there should not be any transport regulations.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a case of the alkaline batteries being considered a hazardous material and including them in cross border shipping likely adds another paperwork headache.
I'm asked every time when shipping something within Canada or cross border if it contains hazardous materials.

I just read the US transportation laws, Alkaline dry cells are considered non-hazardous.
They are save to ship so long you don't just have batteries floating around or shipping a huge number of them.
As far as Canada is concerned they do consider anything with Potassium as hazardous so some Alkalines may fall into this category (zinc batteries are exempt so that's an option)
It would require a declaration of 111 UN3028 Not sure what that would cost.
But Zinc dry cells would be free game- and they are like $1 for 2 at the dollar store.

We put in good batteries. I would just as soon not have batteries included if they were the super cheap ones and would never personally consider shipping a bass with those.

I can tell you in a few days as we have Canadian basses incoming. I think so.

My two cents is that these manufacturers (mostly) use the cheapest batteries they can. I'll bet that one or two of them leaked in the bass at some in time and now they figure it's best not to ship w/batteries. "Batteries Not Included". No biggie. I always remove and put in high quality alkaline batteries anyway. I always change the strings too, but well, you have to ship with strings.
