I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that (forgot what a detail-oriented crowd we've got here)! I love the Rumble 100 - I can carry it one-handed up a set of stairs, and any gigs it's not loud enough for usually have a DI box. My Fender Bassman 100 is admittedly punchier, just much more of a back-breaker to get onto a stage.
But now that I've spent (N+1) dollars on Dingwalls, I wonder if I'm cheating myself playing through a ~$300 lightweight amp? I admit seeing the yellow speakers on a MarkBass amp gives me GAS-like symptoms...
Not a fan of the Rumble 100 myself. I use one at practice and it is decidedly mediocre to my ears. It sounds a lot better with an external preamp in front IMHO.
I got a Fender Rumble 100 and its OK for more Vintage sounds.
I find the secret is to turn down the Bass control, it clears up the muddyness thats there even with the control at "0" and don't press any of the pre-shape buttons.

Had my first gig with Fretnation tapered Dunlop Superbrights, which are custom made for long scale Dingwalls. They did not disappoint. They may be my go-to round wound Dingwall strings for my AB going forward. I also put a set of Payson tapered flatwounds on my NG2. They also did not disappoint. And now we have tapered black coated strings from Payson. I plan on ordering a set of those, since I love DR Black Beauties. Great to have more string choices now. When I bought my first Dingwall there was only one choice.

So there doesn't seem to be any tapewounds available for Dingwall basses? Payson seems to only have coated but not tapewound, and Fretnation doesn't have tapewounds for multi-scale either?
And how do coated strings sound? I assume the coating is mainly to make the tactile feel smoother for roundwounds, but will sound about the same as roundwounds?
The lack of string choices for Dingwall is kind of bugging me. Now I can understand why some people sold their Dingwalls because of it.

what do you expect??? Fanned fret basses had been very exclusively limited to pretty much Dingwall alone. Only in recent history are we seeing many other manufacturers exploring the multi scale route.
I couldn’t imagine string makers are gonna be chomping at the bit to offer a variety of options for what was almost exclusively 1 bass company.... this on top of the fact that there are some outstanding string options already.
when people move to multi scale it is generally speaking due to the advanced tonal articulation offered. With that a large majority of players haven’t been looking to dull it down with coating or tape wound or flats.
Thankfully Payson is offering us up some options on these fronts now.

perhaps some of the finger noise you are trying to minimize is due to your set up. Lowering your pick ups a tad or raising your action a bit might help reduce it. If your running a bass with the dark glass pre, don’t be shy to dial those high mids way back.
That's what I've been doing--either dialing back the onboard Darkglass high-mids, or doing it at the amp or amp sim. But I find that doesn't get me the tapewound sound that I really like.
I mainly got the Dingwall because I wanted better clarity on the B string, but that doesn't mean I want the zing of the roundwound sound. I find the more rounded/smooth top-end of flatwound the most appealing (while being punchier than flatwounds).
If Payson made a tapewound for Dingwall, I'd be very happy. @Blues Cat -- is this a possibility? And how do your coated strings compare to the sound of flatwounds?
I imagine the amount of Dingwall players who want Tapewound is pretty miniscule... definitely less than those who wanted Flatwounds, and I'm sure those aren't exactly flying off shelves.
I found that the black daggers took a bit of the zing away but more so flattened the mid bounce a bit

Definitely not trying to be a dream killer, but, @AB Nate and @Selta are right, you should probably look for other solutions to your problem besides looking for tapewounds for LONG scale Dingwall basses. I can't think of any string maker that's doing it, or anyone that would be interested in doing it, that's way too niche-y. You could probably find a few examples if you were playing a Super-series bass, but a long scale Dingwall is probably a waste of wishing. Black Daggers are fantastic strings, but they're NOTHING like tapewounds. This is going to be about setup or just using ancient strings. I hope you find a solution...
If flat wound is, as you say "most appealing", why not give the Payson Flat wound a try ?
....just to chime in here (maybe im totally wrong).......what about foam mute near the underside of the bridge? Would that not dull the tone a bit? You could experiment with that - could be a happy medium?? Cheers

Happily trending in my own peculiar direction.
I've never ran tapes, but there's still some fret noise with the black daggers, maybe half as much as their RC cousins. Like I said above, LPF your cares away.
Dingwall steels basically turn into tape wounds after a few weeks, sonically.
