If that was the case, I wouldn't be searching for tapewounds for it. Out of my six basses, the Dingwall has the most rasp/fret/finger noise by far, and it's got the original strings for over a year now.

Jason set me up with individual TI flats for my AB’s. The Paysons are comparable, and easier to set up. Very nice feel.

It’s funny how much difference body chemistry makes - I’ve typically gotten a couple years off a set (with occasional soaks in denatured alcohol) before they lose usable brightness and sustain.

Interesting suggestion. Are the tapewounds for uprights the same as for electric/acoustic basses (typically steel roundwound with nylon wrap)? I assume the gauge wouldn't be a perfect match and I'd have to do some mix and matching to put together a full set for a Dingwall 5-string?

Drop Labella an email they make these [This invalid link has been removed] says they make them for the Ampeg Baby bass which I think has a magnetic pickup (someone will correct me if not). They are crazy expensive though.

Same here. I got my new ABZ 5/3, which I'm guessing came with Dingwall Nickels, two weeks ago. They still sound brand new! I put a set of Dingwall Steels on my NG-3/5 the same day, they sound like they've been on my bass for 2 months. I would've said that I was disappointed, but I've got a couple of sets of Dunlop Super Brights that I got from my dude, Jason at Fret Nation(really looking forward to these!), and my String Rejuvenation Station is working famously, so I'm good. I'll leave the steels on the NG-3 for another week, since we only have one show this weekend, and put on the Super Brights right before next weekends festivities.

That's crazy expensive indeed, but considering how long they might be able to last, might be worth it. I've sent them an email--let's see what they say.

I unexpectedly joined the Dingwall Club today. A used one popped up in my local store and I happened to have sold some guitars last week and put the money in the bank (saving for a Dingwall!).
My god, I get the hype now! These basses are alive when you hit a note! What surprised my is how comfortable and light it is. My first thought on the fanned frets was “uh oh, I’m not sure I like this,” but then after minutes I got the hang of it.
Thanks again for all of your non-stop pimping of these basses! I gotta say that I’m very impressed!

The finish has some dings in it too. And yes, I get the irony of it being a Dingwall... This one is perfect for gigging so I don’t mind at all.
As far as my next Dingwall, I’ve already got plans this spring. :) It’s still too early to know but I can see how it may retire other 5-strings.

Even if the finish was perfect, it's still perfect for gigging...:thumbsup:

It will be hard to enjoy playing other basses. That's Dingwall drawback #2...;)
