Dingwall Owners Club

Hey there!

I recently got a combustion 5 as well and am in my honeymoon stage with it. I can't decide if I wanna keep it or sell it and buy another Spector.

I'd ideally like to get the bass a bit more dirty (swapping out the preamp would be my first choice) and am wondering what people have thrown in these basses.

I love the sound of my Spector and love the feel of the dingwall. Could I throw my old Spector preamp in the dingwall technically?

That's interesting that you mention that. Spectors and Dingwalls are my two favorites. I bought a Combustion but did not like the pickups and pre in it. There was nothing wrong with them, they just weren't for me. I was wanting to get the Spector sounds out of a Dingwall. I put in a EMG DC/CS 40 Combo and the BQC pre-amp. It doesn't sound like a Spector but it certainly does sound frickin' awesome. I've thought about buying a Tonepump but I'm pretty happy with it as it is.

I have always tended to play my Super J/P's in active mode. For the past few days, I've been pulling up the volume knobs and rediscovering some delicious passive action. Man, it just doesn't get any better for me.

I want to be the first to wish Sheldon, his crew, and all Dingwallers a happy and productive 2013!!!

I actually forgot that the passive knob pull thing was an option (until late last week) and started discovering that there are some great tones there to be found. Also amazed at the difference in tones with regards to hand position (i.e. near bridge /mid/near neck etc). Next goal is to expierement with settings so that I could bounce back and forth between passive and active.

Gotta show off my new Dingwall!

Got this used from Guitar Center for 1700 straight up. I was able to talk them into giving it to me at that price without taxes and shipping and all that crap. Saved over 200 bucks.

Super happy with the tone of this guy! I'm thinking about throwing some Payson flats on it soon too.

mmmmmm! Natural flamed maple is always a nice choice, especially with the chocolate wenge FB. And killer price as weell.

Gotta show off my new Dingwall!
