Ding Ding Ding! Yup that is the wood combo! I'm relatively new to Dingwalls but I haven't ever seen this combo on an ABII before.

Preamp is the two band Glock that I think I will switch to a 3 band Darkglass with an assortment of stacked pots. So I've played an ABZ before and absolutely loved it, but I don't remember the amount of just acoustic resonance coming out of it that I do for the ABII. I think semi-hollow really is my thing. It also seems more agressive sounding (a plus to me) in a very pleasing and musical way. Feels comfortable in jazz and funk.

And my goodness does this thing play so easily well. I've been fortunate to play a lot of nice basses (and love my Sadowsky to death) but this will become my main. It's just too good.

Thank you all, I cannot believe I got this caliber of instrument at the price I paid for it.

Oh! Oh! Oh! My new goodies are in for my new Z build! I'm still not going to say what they are just yet.

On a completely unrelated topic... anyone know if @Sheldon D. and crew can do /any/ kind of modification to control layouts? I'm in need of a 6th hole for a potentiometer. I know it could be done post-build by a good luthier, but, things are already somewhat tight looking.

You know Nate, it's funny. I have ordered many custom built basses (all but one from Spector), and in almost every instance, something was not what I expected. In this case, I expected a more darker center to the reverse burst.... But, I have come to just love the look of this bass, and playing it is just a dream.

I have applied for Social Security and will retire shortly. This may be the last custom built bass I'll ever get. If that is so... I'm good.

I understand that. Very much so actually. I’ve learned that between wood tops, bleaching, paint it’s really hard for the end result to be exactly what the vision is.

Submitting a drawing with my build I think was quite helpful on this last one. There was a hiccup still in doing so but even then the “hiccup” was spectacular.... not my vision but spectacular and built to perfection none the less.

Ultimately we went back to the drawing and Sheldon and co made my drawing a reality. Even then, the way the paint and clear coat magicked together it came out was different then I pictured..... but not. Depends on lighting I suppose. that said, I instantly fell in love with the cosmetics and wouldn’t change a thing.

Hopefully retirement provides you with many new excellent opportunities

I wondered the same thing some time ago and Sheldon advised against it (routing to refit them) because the new ones don't fit the old slots. I think it will be noticeable if you try to fit a 3x where the other 2 are because I don't think it is going to line up right. I also (though haven't measured lately) don't think the third one fits between the two which is why it will be a mess.

Not saying it can't be done, but consider it carefully...

I had a trans black ABZ sixer, and in person, it had the exact same purple appearance as yours. I dug it. The photos don't quite reveal the purple as much as seeing it in person.
