Dingwall Owners Club

I had a trans black ABZ sixer, and in person, it had the exact same purple appearance as yours. I dug it. The photos don't quite reveal the purple as much as seeing it in person.

A bunch of years ago I ordered a trans black ABZ, then talked to Sheldon prior to confirming the colour black. All I had ever seen was purple/black from them..he couldn't guarantee black..he said it tends to go purplish...so I changed to trans red last minute.
Not sure why they don't source another product to do a true trans black though - regardless the dark purple is still damn cool. I wouldn't have been disappointed either way..but I'm a red bass fan..and I know some hate red...so as long as it's born healthy and has all its strings attached. ;)

Dig the trans black.

Yeah, if you dig true trans black, Kiesel nails it very well. See attached pics.
The 5A flamed top and zebrawood fb round out the package nicely.

Your right thou. That one does look more black. Weirdly though, I feel like it’s more common for them to have that purplish hue.

Yeah, I totally agree with you guys. I think the one in the gallery is more of an anomaly. It probably has the same tint, there's just some kind of filter on the pic to make it look more black/less purple. I dig it, I just wish I'da known...

Stunning! They certainly nail the colour AND the fretboard wood!! Wow

Even if you don't like their guitars, I happen to really like their guitars, there's no denying that Kiesel KILLS it in the finish and fretboard depts! Their painters are just BEASTS! That doesn't even cover their fretboards! Between their treated boards and Pale Moon Ebony, which is just GORGEOUS, they are killing the fretboard game as well! Ebony is my favorite fretboard wood, but only because I've never had a bass with a Pale Moon Ebony board...:drool:

Oof. 21 months is hard. I’ve been thinking about ordering a custom Super J5 but I’m not sure I can live with a 2 year wait o_O

It's really only hard if you've paid for it. If you're still in the process of paying for it, it's not so bad, LOL! Since I've already paid for the 6er, I'm getting antsy. Because they pushed back the delivery of the 6 and the 4, I used some of the money for the ABZ4 to fund Christmas and bills, so that wasn't so bad, but yeah, it's been a minute. You can find dealers that have orders already in the queue. You can save yourself MONTHS, maybe up to a year, if you find a dealer that's got something on order that you can rework into what you want.

We're not talking Carl Thompson long, but patience is a virtue in the world of Dingwall...

I'm still probably gonna order something else from Dingwall...;)

Yeah I hear that. Both of my Dings (Super P5 and Super PJ5) I bought used, so I had no say in their layout or finish but they’ve helped me learn what I want in a custom order.

Sadly, I doubt my dream Super J combo is likely to come up in a dealer any time soon: Super J5, Passive, 3x pups, all-Wenge neck & fingerboard, speedo inlays, body finished in “Black Gold” :crying:

Check with bassdirect they have a whole host of Super J's in the queue (Dingwall Bass Guitars:: BASSES ON ORDER :: Custom hand made basses, at Bass Direct, UK, EU, USA, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Warwick, Fan Fret, Nolly Getgood, NG 2 3 4 5 , Combustion, ABZ, Sheldon) , when you do it that way you can make all the customisations you want and cut down the wait time. You don't have to take it as ordered by the dealer unless it's already in production/past the point of no changes.

I understand that. Very much so actually. I’ve learned that between wood tops, bleaching, paint it’s really hard for the end result to be exactly what the vision is.

Submitting a drawing with my build I think was quite helpful on this last one. There was a hiccup still in doing so but even then the “hiccup” was spectacular.... not my vision but spectacular and built to perfection none the less.

Ultimately we went back to the drawing and Sheldon and co made my drawing a reality. Even then, the way the paint and clear coat magicked together it came out was different then I pictured..... but not. Depends on lighting I suppose. that said, I instantly fell in love with the cosmetics and wouldn’t change a thing.

Hopefully retirement provides you with many new excellent opportunities
Curious - any pics posted of the one you note here?

@CameronJohnson -This. As long as it's not already in production, you can change whatever specs you want. I'm not even sure it has to be the same model. As long as it's already in the queue and not being sawed, sanded, or painted, you can change whatever you want.
