Agreed. I had a SRFF806 before my first NG-2. It was very much a lesser instrument to me in terms of design, craftsmanship, playability, and sound quality.

I don't mind the look of those - off hand do you know if they are 37"-34" scale? I always find it odd that almost every other multiscale bass doesn't go to the long scale length that Dingwalls do.

The biggest cause of delays is re-work. By that I mean, if something isn't 100% right with the build or finish, the bass goes back to re-do or repair the issue. This could be something as minor as buffing out a scratch or as major as rebuilding an entire instrument if there was a catastrophic screwup. (Thankfully we rarely have to resort to such an extreme but it has happened). We try to account for an average amount of re-work when we estimate the lead time but there are always unexpected delays. Every one of the several hundred basses in the queue can cause an unexpected delay causing a ripple effect of delay down the line. eg: a 5 minute delay on every bass in the queue accumulates to over 3 days delay to the bass at the end of the line.

This is the reality of building custom basses using natural materials while aiming for perfection. We could easily solve the issue by lowering our standards but I don't think anyone wants us to do that. We're investing in more space, people and sophisticated software to bring the lead time down but it's too early to see any results yet.

We hope that everyone will have the same experience as Nate mentioned where the long-lasting positive feeling from the quality of the bass far outweighs the wait anxiety.

I would be perfectly happy just playing that bass, but then my NG-3 and my D-Bird Standard would just be sitting, and I'd hafta re-tune a bunch, which would be irritating, LOL! I also know that you guys are busy, which we all think is awesome, and that things will go sideways occasionally. It happens.

Honestly, the main cause of the anxiety comes from the buyer, and has almost nothing to do with the builder. Using myself as an example, I'm more anxious about the 6er that I've got on order, than the 4 I've got on order. Why? I've already paid for the 6er! I still have a small balance on the 4, so I'm not so worried about that one. It's all about the Benjamin's! LMAO!

Check with bassdirect they have a whole host of Super J's in the queue (Dingwall Bass Guitars:: BASSES ON ORDER :: Custom hand made basses, at Bass Direct, UK, EU, USA, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Warwick, Fan Fret, Nolly Getgood, NG 2 3 4 5 , Combustion, ABZ, Sheldon) , when you do it that way you can make all the customisations you want and cut down the wait time. You don't have to take it as ordered by the dealer unless it's already in production/past the point of no changes.

@CameronJohnson -This. As long as it's not already in production, you can change whatever specs you want. I'm not even sure it has to be the same model. As long as it's already in the queue and not being sawed, sanded, or painted, you can change whatever you want.

Ah! I had no idea this was possible, but it makes sense! Thanks for the heads up, guys. I may well inquire with Bass Direct. Definitel food for thought

I don't think that's accurate. I just placed an order for a Dingwall in November, after about 4 weeks it was requested that we "lock down" the model and at least most of the specs at that point. I'm sure it may be able to be changed, but, I'm also sure that would introduce a delay.

It's accurate. Probably depends on the dealer. I was able to make changes up until about the end of July, then it was no more changes. That was on an order placed around 3/18. I originally ordered 4 ABZs, I cancelled one of them and Jeff was able to pick it up and change it to an ABI. I also had an opportunity to change one of the basses to a Z3, but I decided that was not plan A, so I kept them as is. My guess is since you're actually putting in an order, they'd like for you make up yo' mind on whatchu' want.

Again, I'm guessing that it depends on the dealer, and I'm sure that most of them would prefer that you at least keep the same model that they already have on order, but I'm also pretty sure most dealers would prefer a customer order as opposed to a stock order, so if you put a deposit down they'll gladly change that Super P order to a Z3, unless it's already in the "about to get built" window. Will it cause a delay? I'd say count on it, but it can be done.

I also have been curious about the DG HB

For a phone recording of a bar gig the bass sounded really clean and articulate.

I’ve been GASSIN on the genzler cabs fo sho..... but I gotta say the legacy had me disappointed when I A/B it against the Mesa WD800. Your making it sound good but I couldn’t even consider it compared to the WD-800. Curious what attracted you to it being the gear connoisseur you are?

Well, I like it. It adds a nice sheen to my sound. Gives it an "almost mix ready" quality. I can see it being super useful to someone who plays only passive basses or as a unity gain device for someone like me who plays active and passive basses. However, I play a passive Dingwall, lol! My passive D-Bird Standard has as much output as any of my active basses. At that point, honestly, it's a pedalboard place holder.

I'm going to try to record stuff from both gigs this weekend. I'll leave it on for one gig and turn it off for the other and see if it makes more of difference than I'm feeling. I kind of equate it with smartwatches, do you need one? Nope. Will it come in handy at some point? Yup.

It's not really just louder, there's a certain quality to it which I can't really describe .. maybe the 9V electronics adding some compression since they can't keep up, I don't know ?

I'm a fan of the Harmonic Booster too - it adds some of the Darkglass character that I like, along with some useful EQ functionality. I'm playing D-Birds, and the outboard preamp is a great addition to my signal chain.
