Dingwall Owners Club

ah, i just reread Ranjit's email - he said mainly the east side of the country in the LnM chain....so, i guess thats MY area afterall,... i know the Markham Ontario LnM had prob 4 that i saw (yesterday) - two Droc/ 2 Combustions - might have been more, but i close my eyes and leave the wallet in the truck. ...he also stated they were all NEW in that list - maybe a demo model(?)
...also, my Super PJ back in 2015 (passive) was over $3500 new - so ya i assume 4K range now.

currently at Calgary main... or at least last I checked a week ago is a black NG2 5 and the Z3 passive 5. They did have a Droc in the back and I’m not sure if it’s gone or not.

I don’t understand the second last one. The NG2 yellow being $2050.
Is this a list of western Canadian inventory? Is the yellow used?

however I do think this list does reflect that a production super could be attainable around the $2k mark(hopefully less) as @Waltsdog suggested. I don’t recall what a Canadian super runs and don’t have the price list handy but it is closer to $4k is it not?
My SP5 was $3999 CDN. So the 4 would be a few hundred less.

Huh. That super P that TheBassShop just sold was $2399 or somesuch, I believe. I guess if you even shave 200-300 off of that for a Production one, that'll put them into more hands.
That’s just over $3100 CDN. If it had no options/upgrades that would be close to what I’d expect. Although I would’ve thought that duties would have bumped it up some.

I was at the Markham store last Friday. They also had a couple of NGs. I played the blue NG3/5 for about an hour through every combination of Bergantino gear they had available.

Nate had Ranjit put a Darkglass NG3 aside for me over a month ago. I put the deposit down with my local L&M and it's still not here. They figured delays over the holidays, but it was ordered on December 2. I'm getting very anxious.

Russ found me the SJ5 in my avatar last year.. at the Markham location. I have pretty nice gear, thanks to the friends I have made on TB over the past 16 years. :)

And definitely put me down for a SP5 Standard!!!!

What are they starving you? That’s too long.

That Yellow one is probably new old stock hence the lower price, looks like the yellow was discontinued as of the 2018 price list.

Me too!!!

Not much. I ordered on Dec. 2. A week later, I asked the salesguy in Ottawa for an eta and he said it should be here by Christmas. I asked again a week later and never heard back. So I popped into the store on Dec. 27 and they couldn't find it in the system. The Assistant Mgr called Calgary... shipped. Called Toronto... can't find it. Guys are on holidays for Xmas. Should be here Dec. 29-30. I messaged salesguy again on Jan. 2... no answer. Emailed Assist. Mgr yesterday and he just replied that salesguy has info but off sick. He will try to find info. If he does, he will get back to me. This is getting frustrating.

Good thing I have a bunch of new pedals and my SJ5 to keep me entertained.

Sounds wrong. When I ordered my SP5 from Calgary, I think it was just over a week (it was a span of 10 days) before it showed up.

I thought you had more than one DW?

Nope... just the SJ5 so far. I almost bought a Z3 last year but the dude decided to keep it at the time. ;)
When he was ready to sell, I was redoing my roof. So he sold it to someone else <cough RussT> who flipped it not long after. So I decided to go for the NG3 and start looking for an SP5.

My trek down the Dingwall hole started with the following thought process. I bought my first bass back in '85 (I was 15) - a '77 Pbass. In 2009, I bought a Lakland 55-94, in 2009, a Sadowsky. So in 2019, I figured it was time to add another bass to the arsenal and that I should get a T-Bird, which landed me on the D-Bird. Waltsdog was nice enough to let me try out his ABZ, SJ and SP. My mind did a 180 and I decided to get a SJ and a Z3. Sold both the Sadowsky and Lakland, but only manage to find a wicked SJ. So instead of going from 3 basses to 4, I ended going from 3 to 2. I never take out the P-bass, so I need a back-up/different bass. A Z would be amazing, but I figured an NG would do for now and cover all my needs. I'd love to find a SP, and will eventually get a Z, but no rush on that one now. I play mostly country, but also have a rock trio (Beatles to Black Sabbath), and I also play with a few other artists doing adult contemporary, soul-ish, etc. Versatility is key. All I know now is that I don't want to play anything but Dingwall basses. THANKS!

It’s probably because of the way that bass was listed in the system. Iirc they couldn’t even find it until we got Ranjit involved.

Yeah, I’m not really sure how that Z3 didn’t wind up in your hands. It would’ve saved me a lot of grief, that’s still in effect. I try not to regret anything but I struggle with that one.

I got the bass!!! I decided to pop by L&M to see what was going on. Turns out it’s been here for a week. My sales guy has been sick for a week. Another guy overheard me say Dingwall and said “I think one came in!” Sure enough, it was mine.

Now I have to go across town to get girls at hockey practice so I won’t get to plug it in until later tonight. But I’m house bass player at an open jam a band mate is hosting tomorrow. So it will get played!!!

Is it because it's too perfect in timing and each note is too clear/defined? I never considered that it might not be a real bass, or has a synth or bass sample library in the mix, but it's definitely possible because these tools are very common in pop productions.

It's a combination of the type of music, high production and the consistency in the attack on the notes.
