Thanks guys, my life long trade was electrical construction, not electronics tech, but I can solder, and with the right schematic I could probably handle the 6 way, but I'll probably just get hold of Dingwall and trade the 3X for a DROC switch, all on was my main concern anyway ! Thnx again, I know I can always depend on my fellow TBers !

Still sounds like an incredible price jump. I just got in line for a pretty top spec'd Z3 5 string late last year, and it is going to be around $8000 USD after 10% sales tax. I am still having issues thinking a Super series without an X-top and "plain" body would demand the same price.

Can I ask (respectfully as I own a Dingwall) what makes a Z3 worth 4x the price of a NG3? Inknow the wood and place of manufacturing differs - what else? I play guitar also and think about a Les Paul standard at 2800 vs a historic (obvious differences also) at approx 5k and wonder why such a huge jump in the Dingwall stuff.

And again, as someone who purposely hides the amount of inventory in my music room (out of embarrassment) there is no judgement here.

All comes down to the options and body style, plus the neck. The Z neck is so friggin' incredible.

Edit: Not at all "putting down" the Combustion/NGs. I own one of those as well. I need to do a new family photo soon...

Obviously, most of the difference comes down to how much hands-on is put into any given bass. All of the Canadian basses have a fairly sizable amount of actual hands-on work being done to them by the fine folks at Dingwall. I truly love my NG-3, it is an instrument of excellent quality, fit, & finish, but it still doesn't compare to my lowly ABZs in terms of overall feel and attention to detail. Given the fact that the Z/Sklar and the Prima are all combo woods requiring a lot of human interaction, it makes sense that the price would be reflective of that...;):thumbsup:

Having said all that, The original quoted price of that SJ does seem to be a bit exorbitant. The $5k asking price seems legit.

*After a bit of investigation, my analysis of the SJ pricing is that he was quoting US MSRP price, and not street price for his "it listed for this much" quote. I went by the 2018 Dingwall price guide and all the options listed added up to almost $8k at MSRP. We know he didn't pay that much, BUT, his actual sale price is pretty good, because that bass was almost $6k, so his asking price is a pretty good deal for a basically new SJ5-3X.*

That Z sounds great!!

The price on the SJ seems a bit off, though...
The Super P i have on order (ETA September 2020) has pretty much everything that bass has other than the birdseyes board (i have a wenge/wenge neck) and the parallel/series switches, and I'm paying around 4k EUR new (= ~4,3k USD)
