A few questions for everyone following the thread:
For the folks with preamps in your Dingwalls, what do you currently have in it? Did you have something different before? Something you're interested in trying?
Ive tried a good chunk of the flavours that have been offered over the years and I just look at them all as different tools.
sometimes just straight passive is an awesome flavour and if so I like using the tone control whereas the DGTC does not have that option, I wish it did.
the glockenklang 2 band is extremely useful but once I got a 3 band there wasn’t any going back unless it was an existing build. I found the mid control an awesome addition in metal.... and everything else.
the 2 band EMG(?) in my current combustion is quite a neutral preamp offering ever so slight modification to the inherent sound. It’s almost as if it has a slight passive tone control.
I’m truly in love with both the DGTC and the 3 band glock. I see why Sheldon chose these for his fine instruments.
the glockenklang is like adding musical magic to the inherent tone of an instrument where as the DG is like a fully mechanical refinement device for adjusting frequency parameters to your required needs. Both are amazing tools.
did I say I love both of them. Currently, I have 2 with 3 band glocks and 2 with DGTC. I’ve played around with both pre’s more then one person should....

The current 3 band in combustion’s is a very intuitive pre. It does exactly what you ask it to with the tweak of a knob but it’s all very very clinical IMO. Not in a bad way just in a basic “modifies the passive tone” with no colour kind of way. It’s a great preamp but I didn’t love it, stand alone, for aggressive music. Anything shy of RAWR I feel it needs nothing but as soon as your looking for head banging a DG pedal or other stands down stream.
I found the blue cube and Aggie (minimal experience) to be simple. Much like the 2 band that I have on my combustion. Not incredible dynamic additions, just moderate refinement tools.
Generally speaking though all of these pre amps require a good fundamental from the instrument and that is something I haven’t experienced lacking in any. I’d love to try the wood combo of the Droc in a NG style bass as I don’t marry the body shape well of the roc. Inherently the 2 Drocs I’ve played sound so good.
