I don't usually post music but my band put out this EP last month and I thought I'd share it as I recorded about 99% of it on the ABZ (there is some fretless stingray in places on track 1).

I'm currently wondering about seeing if there's a market for someone wanting to trade a 4 string Dingwall for my 5 string NG3. This isn't a classified-type asking, just theoretically because it seems 5 strings are heavily favored around here.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet but I knew when I ordered mine that it may not work for me (the total length) but I had to try with the fanned bride and nut setup. I don't have very long arms and have small hands and also deal with elbow tendonitis in my fretting arm. The length, width of the neck and body setup stresses my elbow more than all my other basses. Note this is not a fault if the bass - it's amazing, it's my anatomy. I am trying to compensate by playing it more classical style between my legs but the input jack makes that awkward.
But dang I love it so dang much! The neck is incredible and I love the idea of 5 strings but I think a 4 with B-E-A-D would be much easier on me. Anyway just thinking out loud while bored at home....

I bought a NG 5 before the 4's were available and having smaller hands the 4 is perfect. The 5 was great but I sold it and waited for a 4 to come up. If I needed a B string I'd get another 4 and go BEAD. IMHO
Just for the sake of clarity, are you thinking of a four-string Combustion or Super series? I think a four-string Combustion would sound better strung BEAD.
Yeah good point - Combustion series for BEAD if I go that route. But really a super pj is secretly what I want!

For the folks with preamps in your Dingwalls, what do you currently have in it? Did you have something different before? Something you're interested in trying?

I liked the Darkglass Tone Capsule in my NG-2 more than the EMG preamp in my combustion. That said, I'm a D-Bird guy these days and I'm very like becoming a passive purist
I'm in the same boat minus having a Dbird! I like the Darkglass preamp on the NG2 but it also sounds really good passive so I go back and forth on that one.
The Combustion sounds great too but I don't really use the preamp. I had a 2 band EMG in a Warwick that sounded good though I don't care for it much in the Combustion.

I have the DGTC in all of my Dingwalls. I dig the aggressiveness and the versatility of the TC, but I do sorta feel like I like it better with the FD-3n's in my NG-3, rather than with the FDVs in my ABZs, so I'm not sure what to do. I'd, not so secretly, love to try a full Nordstrand setup in a Dingwall, but I'm not too sure which pickups I'd want(they have so many choices...
).Overall, I love the way my basses sound, but we shall see what the future holds, LOL!

All passive here. When I did have Super PJ’s with pre amps, I hardly ever turned them on.
The Glockenlang was very clear and pure, almost no color or characteristics. The Aguilar was also very nice, but had a bit more flavor.
I did like the old Blueqube feature I had on a couple passive AB-1’s.
I like the dual action tone control on my Super P.
And can’t say enough good things about the Dbird. Great range of tones.
