Just received my first Dingwall bass today. NG3 in Ducati White. All I can say is, wow! Love the white pearl finish and the feel of the neck is awesome. This it the easiest bass I’ve ever played and the action is perfect. I’ve been a 4 string Fender guy forever but really wanted a good sounding 5 string for church (gospel, rock). The B string is phenomenal.

Also, I had a fantastic experience buying this bass from John Fox. https://www.johnfoxbass.com/ He definitely knows how to take care of his customers and does it because he has a passion for basses. That's my first time seeing a nice high-res closeup of a white one with the plastic film off the pickguard - it looks really awesome!

Congrats! The white is my favorite NG3. And you picked a great guy to buy it from!

And put me three into the church group. I played my NG3 live for the first time a few weeks ago and the entire praise team (and obviously myself) loved it!

I have the DGTC in all of my Dingwalls. I dig the aggressiveness and the versatility of the TC, but I do sorta feel like I like it better with the FD-3n's in my NG-3, rather than with the FDVs in my ABZs, so I'm not sure what to do. I'd, not so secretly, love to try a full Nordstrand setup in a Dingwall, but I'm not too sure which pickups I'd want(they have so many choices...).

Overall, I love the way my basses sound, but we shall see what the future holds, LOL!

I am not impressed with the EMG in my Combustion 2 , as is the case with a number of other quality pre amps
that I have tried in other basses & concluded that the sound quality is not improved over the passive sound,
however , I have as yet not tried the DGTC or the Glockenklang & probably won't bother.

I have also concluded that I don't like the perceived 'harsh edge' that Neo magnets add to the sound of pickups & speakers. So I have ordered a set of Nordstrand Big Splits, which they are mounting in Dingwall covers &
hopefully they will arrive soon, annoyingly I am now into the fifth week of impatiently waiting for them to ship !!

This all sounds a bit negative, but I hasten to add that my Combustion sounds fantastic since putting on
Payson reduced core strings & hope that the new pickups will raise it to a new level of musicality.

Actually, I remember your post when I was beginning my search for a Dingwall. I was leaning towards a Combustion for worship (thought the pre amp would be a bit better) but you and several others gave me hope with the NG3. Also, I just loved this color. What are your tone settings?

What kind of tone are you going for? I was actually leaning towards the EMG and wondered about the Glock. I don’t have a clue on whether that’s an easy switch or not.

My apologies. I guess I worded it poorly. What you said pretty much is what I was also saying.

the EMG is intuitive in regards to the fact that you roll the B/M/T a little and that’s exactly what happens. Roll it a bit more and more of the same happens. It’s very clean and obvious. Subtle but obvious.
The DG is an amazing tool and your right as a little goes a long way. It’s a very dynamic and responsive preamp. When comparing it to the glockenklang my term is mechanical though. The glockenklang being very musical and the DG being a dynamic process to refine the sound/frequency pallet. It’s less intuitive in regards to the fact that a small refinement along the 3 bands can offer a different response then one might expect with a more traditional preamp. It’s more advanced.

I'm with you on the musicality of Nordstrand's pickups. I have AlNico V pickups in two of mine. NP-4a in my SP4 and NP-4a paired with a Big Split in my SJ/P4. They render a more relaxed and open tone to my ears.

On the preamp subject, I run the 2-band Glocks in my SJ5 and SJ/P4 flat and love the tones. With the DGTC in my NG-2, I cut the bass and high mids a tad and dig it.

Not really. I love the sound of the NP-4a solo'd so much that I rarely kick it on.

I never thought that white could be such an amazing colour. It really works on the NG, especially if you’re looking to blend in, but not sacrifice beauty. I’m guessing your asking @Ryno1330 about tone settings, but just in case, this is roughly what I posted before with some updates, note that my PU switch is the Dbird, not the 3x (not sure which you have):

For a nice warm sound, I have all pickups on, dial back my Treble to maybe 20%, completely cut my Mids, and cut Bass to about 40%. Anything more is just too much. If you have the 3x switch, I’d guess you could get something similar with the Neck+Bridge setting, with Bass, Mids, Treble maybe turned up a bit, just a guess though. My other most common setting is Middle pickup soloed. I usually use that for more rocking songs with Mids at 50%, and Bass and Treble quite low. Occasionally, I use a pick with this setting. I rarely use the Bridge pickup, but I don’t play much/any gospel, and who knows what might happen with a little experimentation. I find it great with the envelop filter pedal, and also good for things like Reggae.

Strings obviously make a huge difference too. Stainless steel strings are fun, but so aggressive that I can't get much of anything I'd use in a church setting. I had Payson Black Daggers (black coated) strings on for the last 4 months, but just went back to the Payson Reduced Core Nickels yesterday. The Black Daggers were on loan, and I prefer the Nickel RC strings. They're slightly more versatile than regular nickels (can get a bit more aggressive). But Dingwall Nickels are great too. There's some that swear by flat wound strings too, which I have yet to try, but am not confident I'll like them based on what I've read and based on trying them on other basses.

I can’t solo the middle pickup with this configuration but I’d be curious if there is a way to rewire it and lose the bridge solo.

What’s involved when swapping out a pre? Is it just the circuit board that gets switched and you keep all the wiring and controls or does everything get replaced?

Yeah I'm not sure who he was asking but for me I play live primarily on the neck and leave bass flat, very slightly boost liw mids and then just use the high mids like a treble control depending on how things are sounding. I also use middle + bridge where I cut the bass some and otherwise run it the same. I haven't had it long yet so I'm still learning it but keep coming back to these settings.

The thought is to swap the wires for the middle and bridge pickups. This would leave you with:

Neck solo
Neck/Middle Parallel (instead of Neck/Bridge Parallel)
Bridge/Middle Series
Middle solo
