I did that with my first J back in the day, probably not gunna try it here lol. Both the pulling part and the playing after I find quite intimidating.
I’ve convinced myself to have small frets put in, I’ll have to email the shop and see what they’re using. Even though I’ve retrofitting over the years I’ve always gone with whatever the shop is using at the time.

I guess it’s a good chance to try some mando frets?

I have to tell you, my main bass I've had for a while, (Alleva) has small vintage wire and I really like it as opposed to standard medium frets. Now that I'm playing the Sklar Sig more and more, I'm really liking the mando frets a lot. Part of it has to do with how much I enjoy playing the bass in general, but my concern about the small mando frets turned out to be totally unfounded. It's a different feel to be sure but it so effortless especially with glissando passages.

Yea. My consensus has always been that whenever Sheldon switches gears or changes something up it’s an improvement. Even if it’s a supply issue or for production reasons it’s never a compromise, always capitalizing on an opportunity for improvement. Everyone may not like every option but I’ve never been disappointed.

I love mando frets. My dream is to have a 5 string AB2 with mando frets (as I prefer the AB neck), but that will be hard to find as they don't make them that way anymore. Only Sklars. I think they are difficult to put in.

Didn't that pic have a zero fret And an adjustable nut?
I don't see how they could work together.

I didn't even think of that... It seems you'd lose the benefit of the zero fret once the nut is too high.

From what I was reading in the zero fret wiki, it is probably more keep the strings centered than being a regular nut. Combined with the zero fret it works like a regular nut. If you got it over the zero fret, your tuning would also be wonky.

Hi Club! Just having first DW experience, having borrowed a z3 for a test ride from buddy - and while I find it surprisingly smooth transition for the left hand... The palm muting on angled bridge is a nightmare! Is it just me or do you find it way tougher too?

Haven't ever really given it much though, and don't really have any issues with it. I tend to mute probably about 1/2" in front of the bridge, ish, though -- not right against or on top of it.

The angle and height of the body may need to be somewhat different due to the bridge stagger If that makes any sense.

I do find it a bit easier on a parallel fretted bass. You have to get used to moving your hand in the direction of the bridge while moving up on the strings while palm muting

Is there any chatter of Supers getting produced offshore like NG and others? Or is there a particular purpose in the CAD only limitation?

You're absolutely right, it has both. I can see how it may still be helpful, with the ability to adjust the nut for different gauge strings, but I agree that the zero fret cancels out MOST of the benefit of the adjustable nut.

Ok strings question : where could I get a SS set for tuning a whole step down on an AB5 (so ADGCF) ?
Ideally it would have the same tension tuned like that as the DW SS strings do in standard tuning.

You could put together a set from Kalium using their tension calculator.

Their strings are great, but be advised that their customer service can be very hit or miss.

I believe there has been talk of production supers. Not in existence yet but perhaps in one of the next couple upcoming NAMMs we will see something.

Given that many budgets are taking a hit, that might be a good move. I remember hearing that Combustions all but kept Dingwall afloat during the last recession. Given the way things are going, the more affordable range might be a good place to expand now.

The Payson Fanned SS sets would be perfect for this tuning. We also offer a .145T and .170T in SS.

Finally got my Nordstrand Big Splits, in Dingwall covers, after 7 week lead time.
They look & sound great . Much more musical on the D&G string than the original
FD3n. Very punchy, & with daily height adjustments I think I have found the sweet
spot. Life is good but lonely, lost so many gigs.
