Dingwall Owners Club

Finally got my Nordstrand Big Splits, in Dingwall covers, after 7 week lead time.
They look & sound great . Much more musical on the D&G string than the original
FD3n. Very punchy, & with daily height adjustments I think I have found the sweet
spot. Life is good but lonely, lost so many gigs.

Looks cool! Is one of the pickups reversed or upside down? The Bridge pickup?

Being that there looks to be some considerable downtime, in the gigging at least, I’m feeling motivated to get something done here. These frets have been dressed a few times over the years. Should I bother with these things or just replace em. Plus, these are pre banjo/mando frets which I believe are standard jumbo and I’ve been wanting to put small frets on this for a while...I’m guessing they’d be pretty small anyway by the time they got ironed out.

You and me...we're the same.

I've been waiting to take my Voodoo Prima to a good tech...I just can't get the action down no matter how many of the standard setup tricks I use...but I'd really like to get it re-fretted with smaller frets than those original jumbos, which I really have come to not like very much.

Just wondering... For 3x basses the mid PU is only active in one setting (bridge+middle). Wondering if anyone ever tried mid + neck? Or was it deliberate left off?

I've done this. When I first got my NG3 (one of the earlier shop-upgraded ones), I re-did the wiring for the switch in reverse so I had:

Neck solo
Neck/Bridge parallel
Neck/Middle Series
Bridge solo.

I found the neck/middle series was too tubby/bass & non-distinct. I had a brief discussion with Sheldon about it and it sort of confirmed what he'd thought. The niddle/neck series setting benefits from a little more clarity due to the bridge placement.

Thanks a ton! I knew it must have been ventured by someone throughout and happy to see the takeaway confirms the pickup selection is perfect as it is.

Its easy enough to try it if you really want with a standard 4-way 3X Dingwall switch. just switch the leads for the neck and Bridge pickups and you can have a go. I thought it would be a great fit for me and it wasn't.
