Just my two cents... I have a D-Bird and it weighs in at 7.5 lbs. I would really like to get a five string D-Roc. Not in the cards now but... Never say never. :D
Anyway... I think these basses run on the light side and wouldn't be surprised if the five strings were in the 8 lbs area. YMMV between Standard and Custom.

Again we get back to an aged bassist, where speed and flexibility are factors, 37" to 34" is not going to work. Be grateful you are not fossilizing :cool:

@Thumper I’m still just about in my 30s and after I started playing double bass I have reverted to mostly using Simandl fingering in the lower positions on bass guitar too - it took a little getting used to, but my hands are really thankful for it!

It’s basically 1st finger first fret, 2nd finger 2nd fret, and 4th finger third fret.

I only move to one finger per fret at around the 7th fret on a 34” instrument or my Dingwall Super P.

On my 32” medium scale instruments o can manage it around 5th fret onwards.

Just got my Combustion 10th anniversary. I love it in every way but I do have a question... why were pickguards put on these tops???

Forgive the crappy cellphone pic, but I wanted to show a pic with the pickguard removed.

Thanks to Jason at Fret Nation for making this happen. I drove 100 miles to his business to pick it up yesterday and it is everything I had hoped for.

I don't know if anyone has posted this or not, but La Bella just announced limited Dingwall compliant (34-37") tapered ball end strings..




Limited edition fanned fret bass strings available now! We took our RX Nickel & Stainless series string construction and modified the length to fit a nice variety of fanned fret basses. We field tested these and got some great feedback, so we thought we’d share them with you.

Please check out our specs below to see if these sets are compatible with your fanned fret bass.

4-String built for 34"/36.25" scale

5-String built for 34"/37" scale

6-String built for 33.25"/37" scale

I'm super happy with the Dingwall and Payson strings, but I do use La Bella's on my FBass and they are really good. I will definitely give these a try. Thanks for the heads-up.

Pretty sure it's to streamline production: all Combustion and NG (2 or 3 pickups) are routed the same, no need to change the CNC programming or to double check that they're on the correct one for the correct run. It probably saves a couple bucks - not to mention all 2 pickups instruments can be upgraded to 3 pickups. But I like you would love to see these pickguardless.

Cool. I just wanted people to hop on who wanted. I know that people are always looking for options. I'm pretty well married to Sheldon's nickel-steel strings and really do love them. I buy them in boxes of 15 or 20 sets at a time!
