Dingwall Owners Club

It probably boils down to a matter of opinion and preference. Dingwall's OEM strings are likely constructed differently from Kalium's. One thing is for sure though... Dingwall is guaranteed to deliver your strings where it's highly unlikely you'll receive anything you order from Kalium.

Is this really an issue people have with Kalium? I was about to order some strings from them. They've never once responded to an email I've sent them so maybe that's a sign lol.

I’d do some searching on this issue. I’m not sure what the latest is. Here’s a thread from the not too distant past.
Problem with Kalium strings?

They used to be called Circle K, now Kalium. As others have mentioned, do a search. Don’t spend your money with them, please. The strings aren’t even that great except for the variety of sizes they offer.

I just have issues finding something suitable for a drop C tuning on a Dingwall Combustion that's why I was looking at them. The sizes they offered seemed perfect. People keep saying Payson strings but it's either a .130 or .105 for the lowest string, was hoping to find something a little below the .130. Options overall seem fairly limited for strings in general.

If someone here is interested, of course stay away from the eBay reseller who apparently marked it up about $1,400. Here is the real item listing at Ikebe Gakki. The pre-tax price is 428,000Yen just under $4k USD ($3,994.10) with an exchange rate lookup just now.

thanks. I wasn’t intending to promote one of those mark up sellers over there, just showing off a very rare Dingwall.

That's cool & fine. Every time I find an eBay item that interests me, I make a point to seek the original listing. Luckily Ikebe uses a watermark on their photos, so they're easy to track down. I only posted the link if someone here is interested in it.

Reach out to Fret Nation - they can put in orders with D'Addario for special sized strings that fit Dingwall basses. That's how I get my BEAD and AEAD sets!

Agreed! Jason is awesome. What are you using for AEAD? For my 4-string NG-3, I currently use Payson .145, .105, .085, .065, for that but find that the .145 is just a bit too floppy for me. I have a set on order from Jason, but D'Addario hasn't been shipping the special order strings due to COVID bs, so I'm still (patiently) waiting.

TIA,

Same set! Though, I'm backing off on the gauges a bit to loosen up the top strings. 145, 100, 75, 55 is what I'm going to go to. I contacted Jason yesterday and he said D'Addario has just started making singles again. 3-4 week lead time, I think.

The 145 works well for me. I run a X7 to compress lows, and it tightens it up considerably.

Cool, thanks for that info. I hope to be getting my set from Jason soon.

I have a B7K Ultra, but I generally use the modeled version in the Line 6 Helix for live and the Neural DSP plugin for recordings for the same reasons.

I am so excited,
Dingwall #4 will arrive tomorrow.
A Yellow NG2 - the colour which I always wanted.

But my black NG3 has to go. Now the hard part...
Keep the Yellow one a NG2 or switch the Neck Pickup... if yes - DBird switch or 3x Switch.
I have both at home :D

So I took the plunge the other day and bought myself my first Dingwall, a Combustion 5. Fell in love with it from a picture and then was truly hooked when I played it at the store. I've had it a few days now and love the range of sounds on offer. A truly fantastic bass in every way!

I haven't seen Kalium's charts but I do use their spreadsheet. Roughly 37 lbs is what we aim for. It's just always worked.
Here's Kalium's recommendation to get close to 37 lbs per string without going under.
