@BurningSkies is gonna have a Super PP heh heh

My SP5 has an FDV at the bridge wired series and it’s great. I believe Sheldon himself suggested it when I was debating FD3 or FDV. I’m now intrigued about the Ptone, so if one were to come up for sale I’d probably give it a whirl.

EDIT: I never cared for the Tone Fusion pot so I switched it out for a regular tone control and still have the TF pot that I would gladly send to someone if they want it.

I took mine out as well and put a FDV in the bridge. I am not sure how it's wired, but it has the standard rotary switch. I like the tone on the B and E strings, but not as much on the A, D and G strings. If I did it again, I think I might go for a Super Fatty II in the bridge position.

They won't all fit, you will have to leave one off. :-)
In all seriousness, I have a killer four string NG2 whose original owner did exactly that. He usually used it BEAD. The nut slots had to be widened by a competent person, which they were, and so it actually works fine interchangeably with either stringing pattern. Currently it is EADG, and working great that way, no nut buzz. Pretty cool.

I'll play around with the Tone Fusion and see how I like it. If I don't, I can find a standard tone control, do a push/pull on it and then have P/S for both pickups.

GHS Super Steels: Downside to this is the B-string isn't tapered. They will still work on the Dingwall bridge though.

In my experience, the stock D’Addarios were really firm when I tried a .050 in the 1st position. And that was on a fanned medium scale bass 34.25”-32”.

If you install them on a fanned Bass 36.25”-34” tuned up 1/2 step for C0 it’s going to be really really firm, note choke firm imo. In my case I couldn’t get the strings off fast enough. You’ll also have to max out your TR to keep the neck from bowing up too much.

A drop tune set for a parallel fret bass will too firm as well. The construction is just the opposite of what you want on a super long scale fanned Bass. IMHO YMMV

Appreciate the input. I know you’ve suggested the Payson strings but the one thing that troubles me is the tension. I can really only go off what I’m seeing on the string tension calculator but it appears the three bottom strings would have a tremendous amount of tension.

I know the gauges don’t align 100% but it’s as close as I can get it. Any idea how this would actually feel? I suppose I could drop the .105 from the set, that appears to make the overall tension a little lighter.

Once you start opening up the string tension calculator, finding a set of strings gets difficult no matter what! It's definitely a peeve of mine.

Awesome. I got a 5 string 10th anniversary Combustion with pau ferro board recently. I was ready to go with either indigoburst or whalepool burst. Indigo was shipped first and I love it.

I would suggest removing the totally unnecessary pickguard to really get the full effect of that gorgeous top.

There was an indigo and a brown one there as well, it was close with the indigo but ultimately had a slight personal preference for the whalepool. I love the idea of removing the pickguard...might be the first thing I do after work!

for what it’s worth, and of course I could be mistaken on this but I believe the amethyst-burst is the 10th anniversary model. The rest are all just really beautiful looking combustions
