Correct about amethyst-burst. I ordered a 5 string combustion in amethyst-burst with a maple neck back in August of last year, was told a 12 month wait but has since been pushed back to November. I heard they had some issues with the finish.

Same here! Got an email a few weeks ago about finish issues on the Amethyst Combustions. With how cool of a color it is I'm sure this is ultimately a good thing, but I'm still antsy as can be. My wait should be up mid July, but I also ordered one with a PF board so perhaps Maples are taking a little longer?

I thought all the 10th anniversary Combustions had a quilted maple top with a variety of finishes to choose from. Oh, well...

There was an indigo and a brown one there as well, it was close with the indigo but ultimately had a slight personal preference for the whalepool. I love the idea of removing the pickguard...might be the first thing I do after work!

Dingwall #4 will arrive tomorrow.
A Yellow NG2 - the colour which I always wanted.

But my black NG3 has to go. Now the hard part...
Keep the Yellow one a NG2 or switch the Neck Pickup... if yes - DBird switch or 3x Switch.
I have both at home

If you have the time and willingness, try all your options - keep the one you like.

I don’t think there is any actual difference other then colour. Both should have dual acting truss rods which was perhaps the biggest change of that year

A friend recently got me some strings but I'm not sure these are OK for my Combustion 5.

This particular set are not tapered and these gauges appear to be on the medium-scale pack on the Payson website.

TBH I'm not sure I need them because I'm really loving the Nickel Medium Lights (Black Pack) I just put on.

I'm thinking of picking a set of these up, did you have to mess with the nut at all? Also by any chance would you happen to have any sound clips of these bad boys? Thanks for the recommendation!

You will have to open the nut a bit for the heavier gauge. It's not a big deal. I have nut files but someone once told me that if you're in a pinch, use the string as a nut file. YMMV.

I don't have any sound clips of these...yet. Most of my stuff will have fairly heavy Darkglass coloring anyway. But the DR-DDT strings sound like bright rounds.

I like these strings - and they're fairly cheap and readily available.

Your bass is a long scale which is from 37" to 34". The package says 37" to 34", so I would think those would work. @Blues Cat can correct me if I'm wrong.

Those appear to be Black Daggers V1. V2 Black Daggers are tapered and have slightly different string gauges. These should be for 37”-34”. Hold the B string up to the bass and see if the outer winding clears the nut at the 5th and 4th position. That’ll tell you what bass they are designed for.

I put AlniCo V pickups on two of my basses. An NP-4a on my Super P and NP-4a + Big Split on my SJ/P. I dig 'em, especially with nickel strings.

The NG in that clip is using the Nordstrand pickups? Which pickups are they specifically? They sound killer, closer to a traditional jazz bass. I love my Dingwall but the tone I get out of my USA Geddy Lee jazz still doesn't compare to me, this Nordstrand sound is more up my alley.
