Dingwall Owners Club

I'd say so! I like it quite a bit. It works really well for my cover playing where the extra des range up and down is helpful. The stretch and reach is pretty tough if I'm playing metal tunes that revolve around the first frets on the B string, but that's not what I use this bass for.

It should open up for you with practice. It may require a technique change but I felt the same when I first started on the 6

I am going to just get to the point here as I am having no luck. Can anyone point me in the correct direction so as I can buy a pick-guard for my 4 String combustion with the rounded side pickups, so I can accomplish the 2 rear pickup config? I understand this is not available from Dingwall as this config is technically the NG2 config, artist model. I have found one person online that can make me one for $200, and he justifies it as 'art'. I have a hard time seeing it as 'art', I see it as a matte black plastic pick guard. There is another person who does in fact have both the square and rounded NG2 style pick guard, and his price I would pay, he does make it by hand and I know he has to make a living doing this, but, he only has the templates for the 5 string Combustions 2 rear pick up NG2 style conversions.
Take your pick guard off and trace it onto a piece of paper screw holes and everything including the neck pick up cut out. Then just replicate the neck pick up into the middle position. Erase the neck pick up drawn and there you go. Send it off to your pick guard maker.

That sounds way too high a price. I’ve heard and seen good work form this company : Invalid Link Removed

see if they can help you out.
I’ve ordered a pick guard from them For a stingray and it was very nicely crafted. Great to deal with.
I just bought that Line-6 HX Stomp thing. Gosh, its crazy how something can be up for sale on E-Bay and only in the last 3 minutes it starts to get its first bid. Why the hell bother putting it up for 6 days, that's 5.5 days of waiting for nothing, for the seller. Anyway, it certainly is a pricey little box but I have been watching a lot of YouTube bass videos on it, and the one that did it for me was some guy "Gear Gods"? He showed you how to map out a split signal with the PC editor of how to get exactly what I was looking for If I had to chase a tone, and that was the low end pretty much split out but the high end processed to get that solid but 'clangy' sound that I never could replicate. Yeah, its a guitar pedal, and I'm not interested in wah or phase shift or envelope or heavily distorted bass sounds, but at least I know there in there. I looked around, I dont think there is another 'equivalent' of this box at any less that this thing cost me. At least I know I can always sell it for damn near what I paid but I know I'll keep it. I want to for sure try out the mulit semi-tone drops as well. Now i can get rid of my MXR M87 white compressor pedal too. Thanks for the tip!

the HX is a great box. For the price it’s sooo worth it.

The reason for the length of the auction is to allow as many possible buyer as possible to see it and prepare for the final sale time. Definitely a sellers feature, not the buyers

Being firmly in the Helix universe now myself, it's not just a guitar pedal. There's a lot of sonic territory in there to be covered, and it'll take time to work out how you want to get "your sound" (or even better in this case, sounds).

What's especially fun is when you start to move away from just using bass amp sims, and start heading into using any blocks for creative expression. There's some nice dirt tones to be had using guitar amp preamps, for example. And one of the nicest "tube pre" type sounds I found was actually a guitar amp with un-guitar-like settings

The pitch shifting semi-tones is amazing too, I use it all the time. If you need any help. there's a good thread on TB (Line 6 HX Stomp), and feel free to reach out.

That's how I did mine, though I used Terrapin for the fabrication. Just some attention to detail and careful tracing. Ended up having to do some easy sanding at the neck surround and at the pickup cut just to fine tune, which is pretty expected.

I had three of them made (different looks and materials just so I had options), and the end cost was about 220$ if I recall correctly. Over two hundred for a single pick guard isn't a great deal.

The 6 days helps you find the people who want to bid at the last minute, but I still get your point.

Nice! Yeah that is an interesting point about eBay auctions sometimes.
I think you'll find a lot of use out of the HX Stomp, it has some great sounding options for bass.

Take your time with it though, and use the PC interface software. It makes a whole lot more sense this way.
But yeah.. the amp/cab sims are really great.
I've been playing through a Helix Floor for a couple of years now. I still use a bass amp, but the bulk of my tone comes from the Helix. I use the amp to tweak for the room. I wish I could get by with a Stomp but I always split the signal and run hi/lo through different signal paths. Keeping the "lo" clean and compressed, and the "hi" is processed as desired for tone. I can run certain effects just on the hi end like chorus and distortion, whereas, I can put echo on the whole signal. Unfortunately the Stomp doesn't support enough "blocks" in the signal path to allow me to use it.

Yes, I will do just that regarding the careful tracing. It will cost about $80 to have made, and that is fine with me. So now would be the time to decide on some cool color or pattern/print. Anyone got any ideas what would go good with the Dingwall Whalepool Blue color? I am just not a fan of black anything on my musical instrument but on the other hand I know nothing, nada, nunca, nuttin! about 'art' or color matching. I would leave the house with one white sock and one red sock on and not think twice about it.

I dunno. I don't like black pickguards either...unless they just happen to look right. ;)

I honestly don't love the brighter pearloids either, but the white and off white look nice. Cream/white would be fine. You have a fair amount of action with the whalepool blue and the top wood, so keeping things simple for the guard is a great option.

I'm kinda liking the ones on the Ernie Ball and the Jazz bass both at the bottom pic. I just don't know about the brown one, its just looks like dirt splattered on a pick guard and the perarloid white one is really bright. I'm only going to do this once at $80 so I need to figure it out. Isn't that
something, with all the real problems going on around us, my only problem is the color of the pick guard I want. Music is definitively an escape from reality.

I think the pick guard that looks like spalted maple would cool on whalepool.

I agree with @spiritbass The brown spalt maple looks wicked.

I had to look up the color of 'spalted maple', lol.. my translation=dirty dirt I guess..hahaha. No wonder why I didn't really know, I immediately pass over natural wood colors when looking at basses and go for color schemes of some sort.

gotcha. Bare in mind depending on who makes your PG and what your willing to spend, you could also have a natural wood grain like the spalted maple painted to any colour you prefer. Contrasting or matchy matchy. With the maple grain it could match your finger board, so there’s that?

tough to make the call with so many options out there. Good luck.

If you want something that looks like a pickup you can make a silicone mould of one of your current pickups and then make a fake one from resin (you can fill resin with whatever colours or items you fancy). Another option is maybe some of the polly plastic, which is a mouldable thermoplastic stuff.

I checked out a 3d printing place, $75 to scan, $75 to print, they can suck one with those prices. Nordstrand sent me another email saying they will sell me the ones they have but it'll be $51USD which basically ends up being $70CAD. Seeing as I need one 4 string sized and one 5 string sized, that would be expensive.

Found an exotic wood shop close by and I'm just going to make them myself using this.

Abalone would look good with blue. I had one with transparent white and it was really nice.

Although I know an abalone is some kind of shelled creature, maybe a bi-valve clam? I had to look up what the heck an 'abalone' pick-guard actually looked like and you are completely correct, look at the colors I can get in 'abalone' (or fake abalone?) I'm really liking the abalone type patterns/colors

Yes, that is a good thread here you link, like 105 pages of it! Took me into 2am reading them. Perhaps maybe TB here should have some new forum called the "Patch Panel" maybe, where users could upload/download patches they made for whatever effects/amps boxes they have with a little description. Buried deep in that link you give there are guys asking how to get close to 'this' or 'that' regarding custom sounds from the Line-6 HX Stomp, aka.. PC mappable gear. I'm sure there are more code writing nerds on here than me who like to see where they can go once the GUI is open on whatever they are programming.

Each one in abalone should be unique. This is what I had. It's kind of like shell meets pearloid, but it is in fact some sort of shell. Otherwise, I would suggest white pearloid.

Beautiful. Love that!!!

here’s the one I had made from WD or DW. I always forget......

Unfortunately the picture doesn’t do it justice. It was a really nice PG.

And the one it replaced.... cheap trick anyone?
