I'm usually a 5-string kinda guy but my first Dingwall was D-bird 4. Tuned it BEAD and it is SICK! It sounds massive.

Ended up getting my hands on a 5 string custom D-ROC as well. I'd say the D-Bird is actually more aggressive sounding than the custom, the wenge neck on the custom really changes the sound, much tighter and focused.

I'm with you. And to a certain extent it does. What makes the Stomp kinda interesting is how it can form part of a larger pedalboard - so if there was particular pedals you preferred, you'd loop them in too.

Also, the B7K emulation (the "Obsidian 7000") is almost dead on. A friend of mine and I did some blind A/B testing and honestly couldn't reliably tell them apart.

Hey guys can someone please recommend strings for me? Have been using the standard Dingwall 5 string nickel sets and I like them a lot but getting tired of their lack of availability and the price gouging that’s going with them. Almost to the point of saying screw it and selling my Dingwall, the only reason I haven’t Is my band has songs in drop A that I really don’t like playing with my other basses.

Newtone Strings – British Handmade Guitar Strings

Amazing strings and you can get any gauge you want. Also shipping was way more reasonable(I’m in Canada). Funny how shipping from Uk is cheaper than the states lol.

Payson strings for a drop in perfect fit. My favorites were the reduced core nickels, but I liked all the nickel round wrap Payson’s, and the flats. Quick service and shipping.

Going further afield, Fret Nation can help you with string sets that fit Dingwalls longscale basses. Jason has helped me out with mixed sets for my AB. Jason is a Dingwall dealer, he knows what is needed to fit the our basses.

I’ve found DR sets that work on the four string AB and Dbird, E-G.

I’ve used Infeld super long super alloys as well.

On my Super PJ 5 the B string could be a challenge, so I’d often use a four string set I really liked and a single B from Dingwall....going to E-C was made it even easier since single C strings are cheap and plentiful.

Bare in mind Payson has a medium scale offering now too. I have yet to try them but they’ll be included in my next string order.

I think I'm gonna put some clear on it first and see how it looks, if no good I'll sand and likely hit it with some ebony stain. I'd like to see the grain, it's a nice piece of ash sitting in there. I'm gonna do the same with my 5 string Amythst burst Combustion when it comes sometime this month. That pickguard covers way too much of the finish up, it's a real shame.
