Hm. Has anyone ever looked at true temperament frets on a Dingwall?

I assume that would have to be an aftermarket add-on?

This. Given how busy Dingwall has been I highly doubt they would take this on. Couldn’t hurt to ask but I imagine even if they did do it it would be quite expensive.

To do it aftermarket, you’d need to either fill the original straight fret slots or get a whole new fingerboard, right?

I think Strandberg made a TT multiscale guitar, which is the only one I’ve seen IIRC. I don’t think I’ve seen that combo on a bass yet.

I’d do this to a combustion aftermarket for sure. The tricky part would making the tat frets themselves. I wonder if that Nordic company would consider it a challenge.

This is my new combustion. I really like playing on the interesting Pau ferro board but I have other 5s. The goal is for this to become a fretless. I think I'll get a sensible set of knobs for it too. If it goes well, second pass will.probably be more interesting electronics.

While you're goofing with it, give it a quick try with the neck pickup moved down into the middle slot. I found that it was a better fit for fretless in trying to capture what mine was doing acoustically.

I paid deposit for one in February this year and still no news on when they're coming... not even from Dingwall camp.

Update: Just found out that Dingwall will NOT do pickups in the Sklar config on an Afterburner. (sigh) Just FYI... carry on.

Bummer!

Seems like if you got a 3x and used the 2x switch with the bridge and middle pickups, it would at least be functionally the same. You could even install a shell in place of the neck pickup for some weight savings. Kind of a janky workaround for such a fine instrument, though...

Z's are heavier and more expensive. To be honest, you know I had a Z and while it is a higher quality bass, I prefer the AB.
Now? I don't know what I'll do. Maybe just get a five string D-Rock Standard and call it a day.

they have never offered that pick up layout on an AB AFAIK. I think it would means setting up new CNC spec. Etc for a one off.

I should know more in a while. It may be because not having a pickup next to the bottom of the neck may cause structural issues. Not sure I understand but am waiting for more info. Problem is I based my whole build on this pickup configuration. smh

Are they closer to the bridge than the normal b/m pickups ?
Or are we really "only" talking about a 3 pups model without the neck one ?

I have a 2013 Combustion. My active output has quit. Batteries are hot. Passive works fine. I have never really worked any wiring for any of my basses, but was going to take a look inside. Is there a likely point of failure that would cause this?
