Dunlop makes some good products for cleaning. I’ve used the Ken smith lemon oil and have had great results with zero issue on maple. It seems to pull out contaminant s really well but bummer, I can’t find it locally anymore.

my avatar used to be a half Canadian flag and half assault rifle that said no compromise underneath. It meant to me that I am a proud Canadian and I believe in and will fight for my liberties as a Canadian..... someone cried about it I guess and the mods removed it.

the new avatar is me being silenced from saying what I’d really like to here. I understand time and place but I honestly didn’t think that being a proud Canadian who believes in freedom would something I would get censored for.

Thank you there Mr. AB Nate! At least your not that vocally depressed/suppressed that you cant type. I went down for the count and ordered all 3. If I wasn't in a such fierce fistfight with SQL Server last night and today, I'd have bought all this last night. I got a dirty Dingwall that needs attention! Besides, much better to take ideas from people here rather than the girlfriend when she leads you into her utility closet filled with "Mexican Remedios" in unlabeled bottles.

Definitely want to steer clear of the unlabeled Clorox or whatever else you may find in that closet.

Update to my previous comment...

I haven’t played a Sklar but if it’s good enough for the man himself, I’m sure I’ll dig it. It was also crazy cheap. My only concern is not knowing the weight since Zs and Primas tend to be a bit heavier than ABs. I think this will be an amazing contrast to my SP5, and I’m already thinking about refinishing options...

I haven’t played a Sklar but if it’s good enough for the man himself, I’m sure I’ll dig it. It was also crazy cheap. My only concern is not knowing the weight since Zs and Primas tend to be a bit heavier than ABs. I had to look up who Robert is. Yes, that standing position he is in with his bass, kinda like a fireman holding the battle axe on his way to smash in the door to the fire, was most interesting. I just need to experiment with different bass positions to find something that really works out in a practical sense of fretting notes rather than to maybe want to play like the Metallica bass player now, with his bass slung low and all cool looking. The time to begin is now. I never stood up once yet and played, in 4.4 years. Not once. Need a strap first.

So when I bought my Dingwall from Bass Central in Florida, he (Grasshopper) asked me over the phone if I wanted 'something about a Paul Farrow'. I said, 'who is Paul Farrow?". Really, no joke. He says no, do I want the neck a Pau Ferro. I said what is that (really, for real again). He went on to explain about the wood and how much it cost extra. I said, are you kidding, why would I want to pay extra to have the beautiful light color of the fret board covered up. The light color of the neck was my #1 want in a new bass. So now that I have that, it is getting dirty from my fingers. I have read here one poor soul cleaned his Dingwall neck with something that took the Dingwall sticker off of it and I don't want to do anything like that, so if someone can suggest something (chemical/cleaner/whatever) I can use with a cloth to clean the fret-board and entire light colored neck, that would be great. I am a person who believes in horsepower to get the job done, so I'm not into just using water, please suggest something with 'kick' in it to clean my neck really good but not wreck it. Thanks! And AB Nate, I been itching to ask you what your picture is. I see either 2 dolphins/porpoises one time and then I see what looks like someone being suffocated by saran wrap other times. What gives?

Well I still have to wait until March for my D-roc Standard 5 string, but got some upgrade parts for Christmas ( Hipshot ultralights and some Dingwall rubberised knobs ).
Kinda like getting my bass in installments LOL

Update: Since my ABZ build can't have the pickups the way I had planned, I decided to be fiscally responsible and go with more of an everyday working player's bass. Things will get back to normal and I want to be ready for a lot of playing now that I'm retired. As I mentioned earlier I'm going with a black D-Roc Standard fiver and now they will be putting a P-tone pickup in the middle position. Looking forward to hearing that.

Ok, time to come clean. I’ve been telling people for a while that the Darkglass tone capsule doesn’t really affect the tone of a bass when set flat, but in this video there’s clearly a difference between the DG and EMG flat.



Not a jarring difference but an obvious one, and an improvement at that IMHO.

The question now is, how come I can clearly hear a difference in this video but not when I toggle from active to passive on my own NG3?! Could it maybe be that the EMG has a bigger effect on the tone when set flat than the DG does? Something going on with impedance maybe?

Or maybe I just need to play my Dingwall through a better rig...

It might be more noticeable through headphones, it is for me anyways. It definitely gets more hifi vs "vintage-y" with it bypassed. I like it on a lot with pick playing and leaving the eq flat.

I play through full-range three-way cabinets and hear a dramatic difference between active and passive on my NG-2. I always run active and roll back the bass...

I'm gonna try out the Payson nickel strings on my Sklar once it arrives. It's coming with Dingwall's old Voodoo label steels, and I hate the feel of steel strings.

I ordered two sets, the newer version with the red label that are 130-105-85-65-45 and the older version with the clipart Dingwall label that are 130-100-80-60-45. It'll be interesting to compare them. I only ever ran Dingwall's nickel sets on the ABZs and Combustion I owned before.

I see Fretnation carries (but is currently out of stock) Dunlop Super Bright nickels in tapered super long, which I've enjoyed on my Super P5 in the past. I'll probably try those on the Sklar once they're in stock, too.

Gonna be my first bass with a 3-band preamp (the Glockenlang) since I played Ibanez basses. I tend to prefer passive basses, but the flexibility will be nice. Also, having a D-tuner is going to be a first. Anyway, lots to be excited for!
