I think Canadian and Mexican made instruments are exempt due to the North American free trade agreement (or whatever they call it now). I assume that all Asian imports have import tariffs and Chinese ones have an additional (or higher percentage) tariff due to the previous government administration.
The trump administration added tariffs to Chinese imported products. If it says Made in China US pays more for it.
After a three-week hiatus, I got to play my SJ-5 (ash/maple/pau ferro w/original Super Fatties) with the Payson medium-scale nickels. I'm digging the way they sound on all of my Supers.

Does Jive Sound (Jong Lee) still carry Dingwalls? He may have something on hand if he does.
Their website says they have 2. None of the pictures work though.

Anyone here swap out pickups on an older Super J ? I’d like to do Big Splits in FD3 covers but I’m thinking the control plate and pickguard might be in the way.
Nice SJ! If Dingwall still has Super Fatty shells around, big splits will fit in them. I converted mine to Nordstrand pickups a couple of years ago. I went with a custom-spaced (poles) NP-4a and a big split with alNico V magnets. Dingwall was kind enough to ship the shells to Nordstrand for a small fee. FD-3 shells would require routing, of course. I wasn't ready to go down that road. I wanted to hear AlNico pickups in mine and FDV's weren't available to fit in the existing routes. I dig the Nordies with nickel rounds.

So they were able to fit a Big Split in the smaller shell ? I’m picking up my NG3 from Mo next week. Bringing the Super J to see what they can do. The stock pickups are not bad, just want something different. I have a Highway One Jazz that Mo routed for Big Splits. It sounds incredible but nothing else about it compares to the Super J. I was in your shoes a couple years ago. A local TBer (Waltsdog) let me try out his ABZ, SP and SJP, and that was it. I now own a SJ, Z3 and NG3. I also have a SPJ on the way. I sold my Sadowsky and US Lakland. Are you sure you want to go down that rabbit hole? Dingwalls are the real deal and will make everything else feel inferior. It gets expensive fast.
