Of the ones I played I’d stick with my Ibanez over them. Fit and finish vs price point the IBBY won. The Marusuzycks often have a look factor but definite playability was meh.

who knows, I have to assume some are better then others like everything. I’d guess the ones that I played were mid to upper range of their quality scale. Just no wow factor for me.

Dingwall gurus. Not certain if this is worth a warranty claim, but the volume and tone knobs are all kinds of wonky. Seems the brass insets in the actual knobs are off center. When I rotate the knobs, they don’t spin level on axis if that makes sense. Thought about email CS and asking if they would send me a couple new knobs.
Thoughts?

The knobs are likely fine. It sounds like either the knobs have a 1/4" bore and the pot shaft is the smaller 6 mm diameter style or possibly the pot shaft is a split style and the tines are bent. I recommend removing one of the knobs to have a look. We can send out a small brass sleave that will retrofit the 1/4" to 6 mm difference if that's the problem.

Horrible QC IMHO. $3500+ custom instrument, one would think the knobs would at least rotate evenly.

All my supers are like that to some extent, I think it's just a result of the way the cast them.
Around 7:40 ish (old video but I assume they still make em this way)

We no longer cast the knobs. They are injection molded onto brass inserts. They should be wobble free.

Hello Dingwall Owners. I would like to say hi and be a part of this community. I've owned an NG2, NG3 and now a D Roc. Gassing for a Super PJ 4! Do they make them with the P split reversed like the Spectors, because that would be cool!

We do offer the reverse P configuration but to be honest, for what ever reason, the tone is much better in the standard position.

That's so strange, I would expect reverse P to be more clear on the low strings and warm on the high strings. Sometimes you can't argue with mojo I suppose.

is that better tone when the P is soloed, or when the neck P is 100% and bridge J 100%? Just wondering why it works with Spector. Not trying to compare Spector to Dingwall, just Spector is known for a "similar" piano clean, punchy mids tone with their reverse P/J setup, so it led me to speculate the same would be available with Dingwalls. Maybe it's not needed with the extended scale or slanted pickups? Educate me please Sheldon

Fully understood and reasonable considering the geometry of pickups against strings positioning. Reverse P pickup concept sounds reasonable in relation to regular parallel fret system but with multi scale it kinda gets abandoned.

My SP5 has always had the pickup reversed. Now I’m thinking it’s time to get another custom pickguard to try it the other way around.

I'd disagree that the Spector tone is the same clarity and piano-like that Dingwall has. Two totally different designs and I wouldn't expect Dingwall to sound like Spector. If you want the Spector tone, that's where you're gonna get it .

Two things impede trying this: custom guards are expensive, and since I’d need to make a tracing I don’t know how I’d accurately mark the pickup location since it’s different from my current pickguard.

It does do that but it loses the distinctive P mojo.

My question wasn't intended to say I want a dingwall to sound like a spector. I have a Euro for that. It was more a question of can the reverse P be ordered, and if it works on spector, does it work on dingwall. Why have the option if there wasn't some kind of benefit. I don't question Sheldon's ears, just wandering if there was an advantage either way. Since I don't see myself soloing just a P pickup, but really liking a P/J setup on full blast, asking about the tonal possibilities with a standard or reverse P in the setup.

I mean, try it without the pickguard at all to start? It won't look the best, but, there's no reason to jump to the final solution that you're uncertain about . When I was playing with two pickup Combustions and moving things around, I just left the pickguard off for a couple weeks.

I wish I could offer a more researched answer but it was a case of really looking forward to the brighter low strings and fatter high strings which is exactly what it did. What I didn't expect was how the tone was much more clinical and the P-like character was lost. It was a big enough fail on the two or three basses we tried, I decided just to stick with the traditional P positions that worked well already.

Perhaps just for curiousities sake giver a try sans guard.
That said I’ll have to pop off my guard and see if it’s routed.
