Hi Dingwall Lovers! Thanks to Morten I got my first Dingwall 2 days ago. So I think I've got the ticket to join the club. 
I really love the bass! The only thing I am not really happy with are the stock strings. Morten told me that the basses are delivered with nickels in standard. Can anybody confirm this?
On my other basses (Tino Tedesco TT4/21 Jazzbass, mostly played passive, Warwick Streamer LX5) I used and still use DR HiBeams for the last years. They usually are the first pick for all of my basses.
I've read in another thread they will also fit on Dingwalls. At the moment I only have 4 strings sets on hand to test it, but it looks like they fit the 36.25" E position, but not the 37" B.
Can anybody give an experienced advice on this?
What would be the best alternative to my beloved HiBeams that will fit the 37" scale? Dingwall SS?
I also have to mention that I'm from Germany... that's why options like Payson won't be my first choice because of the availability here in Europe.

Your new bass will add well to your collection.
Having had the chance to play my new 6 string ABII a bit at home, there are a few things that surprise me:
- Although the B string is noticeably harder to reach I'm not completely lost and could probably take it to tomorrow's gig if I felt brave.
- The neck feels much thinner than on 4 and 5s, probably because it's got such a wide flattish surface. I don't regret not holding off for a Z.
- The Glockenklang preamp doesn't feel as neutral to me as most people describe it. Granted the actual tone doesn't change much, however FD3 pickups can be almost annoyingly dynamic but the preamp seems to add a tiny bit of compression. I actually prefer the bass in active mode, even though I've been using passives exclusively for the last few years.

Hey Man welcome tot he club.
my first speculation would be to look into Newtone strings Accross the pond.
The Paysons are my go to and he does ship at fair prices but... I get it.
I think Newtone does custom gauges too from what I’ve read around here.

As someone who's entertained the idea of getting a Z but never looked closely at the ABII, ^^^this statement intrigues me: Could you elaborate? What is it about the neck shape/profile or fingerboard width on the ABII has you glad you didn't get a Z? Thanks.

what I am missing most is the zingy top end and attack of the HiBeams and something in the mids just don't feel right to me... hard to describe. maybe it's the combination of HiBeams + single coils on the jazz vs. nickels + humbuckers on the NG2.
so far I like the b//m pickup selection the most. maybe because of it's the closest to the tone of my jazz, which was burned into my ears over years.
shipping costs aren't my problem... but I drove to many times to the german customs office, which is 60km away from me.
which Payson set would be the closest to the HiBeams?

I would install the Hi beams E-G and live with the stock B until you find new sets. Maybe you could find a single stainless extra long B.

Both Dingwall and Payson strings are available in stainless sets. I’m thinking that it’s the stainless sound you are missing with the nickel strings.
I remember one of the European Dingwall players talking about Sansone strings. (Just guessing on that spelling).
I’ve used Infeld super longs on my AB-1.
Jason at Fret Nation is a great resource, but I don’t know what the international shipping expenses would be.

I have a history of tendonitis at my left arm which took years to heal completely, and more recently shoulder/neck issues (having emptied my grandma's home by myself, moved office twice, and moved in with my girlfriend last year must not have helped) so I have to take extra care not to strain this arm too much (or the other for that matter - 5 severed tendons in an accident 15 years ago).
One thing I have to be careful about is grabbing a guitar or bass neck with excessive force. A slightly meatier profile seems to discourage me from doing that, so I can focus more of my attention elsewhere.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't have liked a Z - only that I have a feeling it would have been a bigger adjustment. The only experience I have with them is 5 minutes of unplugged noodling on an acquaintance's Sklar so take it with a grain of salt.

That is similar to mine, only the body looks like walnut and the top something else. Mine is mahogany with a bubinga top.

I think this thing has a walnut body and walnut top. Bribing a neck/wenge fretboard.
lovely wood combo. If it was a six string I’d be looking at trying some EMGs and an 18v haz in it me thinks.
The bad thing about Haz and the few Haz clones out there is they are all PCB, so you're stuck with that Spector knob layout. It'd take a bit of work to shoehorn one into a Dingwall. But, damn, I bet that would sound awesome.

Yeah - AB for sure, not a Voodoo. Bubinga neck people - love a Bubinga neck...
I'd have to agree with this assessment. I have a Sklar and an AB2 and I actually prefer the AB2 neck for that reason. I don't generally have an issue, but I've noticed if I play the Sklar for longer sessions (though more so when I first got it). I had a combustion, too, and I think that is too chunky even though people say the profile is the same.
