Anyone “in the know” know if the Black Forest Green NG3’s will be as widely available as some of the other recent finishes. The day I was ready to buy the 2 I was watching on Reverb of course sold.

I don't know that I'm more or less in the know, but I haven't heard a single thing about the Black Forest being a limited color. Usually that kind of stuff is pretty out front in any mention/media. I think you may just be seeing some rarity right now because that's a newer release color and there's just not that many that have hit the shores given the backlog of import production.

Guys, I just installed brand new Dingwall Nickel strings on my Z3, and the E string is completely dead, the others are ok (although not that impressed by their brightness, apart from the fact that they feel really good)

That's the first time this happens to me! Probably purely bad luck.. Did this happen to anyone before?
I mount my strings very well (I follow Jason at Fodera's instructions the most, which I think are good)

Should I consider looking for other strings? I already got a second Dingwall set and not sure what to do. I don't like spending my money on things I don't fully enjoy, or don't last.
Has anyone had/tried LaBella Nickel strings custom made for Dingwall?

I had Sansone Stainless Steel strings on it when I received it last week (Italian made for Dingwall), and they sounded really really good, but I don't like the feel of SS strings, although these ones felt kind of ok. But also not too comfortable using SS strings on nickel frets for their lifespan, hence why I quickly removed them.

It doesn't, the metal shell is slipping against the plastic insert I think. The first time I pulled the knob off to the insert stayed on the guitar. Maybe I need a bit of glue or something to get it to stay connected better.

I haven't seen this happen before. Glue will fix it but we'd be happy to send a replacement. [email protected]

check that you don’t have a twisted string.

Actually, both the B and the E don't sound fresh, but the E the most.. The B is just a little bit fresher sounding than the E, not a lot. The B sounds a bit like a new coated string

You're probably right. I am not sure what it is. It would be weird to put a walnut top on a walnut body, but I guess it could be.

is there any chance you are introducing string twist on your installation? You sir are having a weird and unusual experience it sounds like.

Nope, I am really careful not to twist the strings while mounting them.. And I even put extra care this time, because of this reason.


What I can say, is that the strings are wrapped inside the package pretty aggressively, never saw such a small and tight wrap on other strings, and when I (carefully) unwrapped them, they are a bit twisted indeed, especially on the bridge side. But not a lot, like 10-20 degrees. They look perfectly ok once on the bass.

Weird experience?
Is that the reason? Perhaps someone packed them quite poorly from the factory?

Or am I still missing something? Because I have been mounting my own strings with no issues at all for over 15 years..

Actually, none of them sounds 100% fresh, to be honest, I am a bit disappointed in that, besides from the fact that they feel absolutely great, the best even!
The rest of them sound like a 1-2 week old strings, the B sounds like a month old, and the E sounds like 6-8 months old, something I would replace right away.. That's just my observation, not sure how I can demonstrate that.

In the video I played on my YouTube page, I was using months old Sansone Strings, and they sounded fresher than all the strings I have now But I can't stand Stainless

So ruling twist out it does leave one wondering about the strings.

many many folks love em and swear by them which does leave a person wondering what is the root of the issue.
I have had a couple random instances with a faulty string and not exclusively the dingwall strings but 2 packs??? Leave me wondering what kind of shelf life they had before coming to you.

You said the sansones sounded great as we saw in your video and that would lead me to think it’s not set up related. Pick up height etc.

ie. is the bass side cranked down vs the treble side.

I guess one option would be to try some paysons or something. Do you know anyone else with a dingwall that could try the strings on their instrument and confirm the same results?

They arrived from Thomann last Tuesday, I can't tell how long they were sitting in their stock.

The E is definitely not fresh off the boat, even when I was busy tuning it up, I could already feel it had zero brightness, to later confirm it was dead. Just felt the same process now with the second E I installed
