That is also pretty much my only complaint with my d-roc. I find myself gravitating towards my ABZ more, even though I like the sound of both pretty much equally. So much easier to palm mute with the smooth ABZ bridge, where my palm hand gets poked a lot by the sharp corners of the d roc standard bridge saddles.

Yes, exactly. Too many sharp edges. I also don't like bridges that rattle and move around when not under tension.

They are using a different bridge on the five strings (see pic).

I’m not exactly sure why they developed the new bridge but it could be related to us complaining about the hip shots or it could be carry over from the hellboy.
Perhaps that sig model spec introduced it for similar reasons that a lot here have requested alternatives and that prompted it being put on the 5 string D roc’s.

If you look at every 5 string D roc(currently all custom) they have that bridge.... same as the hellboy.
Being that they are already producing this bridge it would only make sense to produce more of them and with that retain the CNC programming.
Perhaps if they eventually make revisions to the combustion line programming they would incorporate the bridge there too.

I believe it is only a 5 string option. We haven’t seen this bridge on a 4 and definitely not on a 6

Hoping we can put an after market AB bridge on the standards.

Might be a balance thing? I know I saw an interview with Sheldon where he said they initially only did 4 string d roc’s to make sure they got the balance right (no neck dive). Maybe with the move to 5 string, they needed a heavier bridge to maintain the balance? No idea if it’s true, just a shot in the dark

It looks like I'm never using the Bridge pickup alone (pos 1), was hoping to be able to wire neck solo option instead.. is it possible at all? (I don't want to customize the rotary selector for sure :)

I seem to remember another, better, picture of that bridge. I thought that it was still a top load, slightly different than the AB. The ball end goes in and hooks upward. You just can’t see the ball end like on the old bridge.

Still, looks like an improvement over the individual bridges that do have lots of pokey spots.

They've all worked fine for me over the years...but I do like the AB-style bridges. I'd guess that there's some kind of 'insert the string and lock in place situation going on so that you don't have to pull it all the way through the hole.

...for someone like me who often cleans strings off the bass and/or has been through lots of trial and experimentation with strings, I'd much prefer something that allows you to anchor without pulling through.

And for all the recent trying different sets and having custom sets made...I've come to realize I still just come home to the Dingwall nickel/steel strings.
