Had an acoustic practice tonight, two guitars and me. There's no way the djent bass is going to sound good in an acoustic setting, right? Nope, it did great.
I’m currently playing my Dingwalls in church, a classic rock band, punk band and a dance funk r&b band….the right tool for all of the jobs.
The overall clarity and “evenness” makes the Dingwall a great choice for acoustic work, IME.
Dingwalls sound great through a B7K set to low gain, I do a lot of recording that way. Sometimes through a Sansamp PSA. I really wish I had an Avalon U5 again, they'd sound great through one of those no doubt.
The other thing that gets me is the middle pickup tones sound more like a P bass than my actual P bass.

Well after watching it sit there for another 2 months and then a further price drop, the temptation became too great. Picking it up tomorrow. Dammit. Wife says there is nowhere to put any more cases...

Gosh, you hit the nail on the head with that discovery/comment. So true. I am not one for the Dingwall single string slammed with a pick covered by Darkglass intense ball bearings in a can rattle sound. I had the Darkglass Microtubes pedal, tried it, sold it. Then I had the Vintage Microtubes pedal. Same thing, sold it. Then bought the B7K and fiddled with the controls and got exactly what you did (how you felt in the end), set to very low gain and this pedal was the winner for sure.
I like the low gain and rattle can tones as well, especially with a PSA in front of the B7k. Fun and crunchy

I double tracked an album with both the U5 and my Jule Amps Monique... The engineer/producer was a die-hard only record bass through U5 kind of guy. Upon listening back, he asked me if he could just delete the U5 tracks.
Though we did find a use for it...sounds amazing with Rhodes.
I love the B7k with the drive off boosting the drive channel of my Genzler Magellan 800, a little gritty with tons of low mid oomph and definitely not as easily identifiable or modern sounding as the classic metal b7k settings/sound.
Also agree on the middle pickup thing, I neglected that position for years until I switched pickups. Wow, it sounds really good and certainly very P like even though I don't have a P tone pup.

Hrrrm. Is the switch wired wrong?
Traditionally in it's forward most position (as far clockwise as you can go) It should be neck pickup, then the two combinations (Neck/Bridge parallel, Middle Neck series) then finally bridge solo?
Is the switch wired in reverse or something?
No, it's wired fine, but to get the neck pickup I'm used to rolling the pickup knob forward.

Maybe we're just not connecting here. For me rolling the knob clockwise all the way is rolling it forward...and that puts it on the neck pickup. Rolling the knob what would be backwards (if it were a standard pot) all the way counter clockwise...it is the bridge...
