I put my Super PJ with P solo’d up against an American Fender P. Same amp, both me and my buddy taking turns playing each bass back to back. Pick, finger style, slap, both with nickel rounds.

Passive on the Dingwall, passive Fender P. Tone up, tone down, whatever the Fender P did the Dingwall could match. I’m confident I can nail a P sound.

We had the other band members look away and try to guess which was which. They got bored. Started drinking. Not the most cooperative bunch.

Put the Dingwall Super into the other gears, parallel and series with both pickups, or crank the solo bridge pup, or add in the Glockenlang pre, and there is a world of range the Fender P wasn’t going to do.

No comparison on the feel. Not even close.

I have a 63 AVRI P that I installed EMG Geezer’s in. Killer tone. Pretty big difference between the S P/J. However, and like I said, the P pup solo’d is awesome.

EMG GZRs are awesome. Got a P on my Lakland. Great tone

I’m actually swapping out amps to find out if that helps. My Mesa D-800+ is being replaced by a GK Legacy. It may be as simple as having too many hifi/modern pieces in the mix; S P/J >Mesa > Greenboy.

It’s most likely the fact you have the most modern P bass possible. It’s not a tradition or vintage instrument. As mentioned perhaps putting some flats on it could help?

with the voicing knob on the plus you should be able to dial in some spectacular tone but if your looking for change, IMO grab yourself a WD800 and some Mesa 15s and you’ll be in P bass paradise.

Same with my newly acquired Super P/J. Almost a dead ringer tone wise for my old NS-2 with Haz pre. I was actually hoping for more of a traditional P/J tone. Not so modern and scooped.

Does the Super P still come with their special passive tone knob? With center detent where one side is traditional tone and the other scoops the tone.

Yep. Tone fusions For the Regular Super P. PJs come with the rotary switch and a normal tone control.

Mine came with a standard tone roll-off. I didn't spec it one way or another.

I honestly didn't ask one way or another. I did get a hidden series/parallel switch on my bridge pickup so I have plenty of tonal variability.

Mine has the hybrid, it reminds me of the blueqube switch combined with the regular tone rolloff. Just all in one knob.

Doesn’t take much of a twist to make big changes.

You got that done from the factory? I like running the "jazz" position on my Z with the bridge in parallel and the neck series. Would be nice to have that on my upcoming build.

IIRC, Tone Fusion is not an option with the P/J configuration.

It was a special request...and took a bit of deliberation. I don't know if they'll do it or not, but you could certainly ask. I asked if it was worth doing with a P-Tone and the shop did say that it was totally useable in parallel & series. I like having the option.

I thought that was a great idea. I'd want that on a Super P w/ J. It adds a little more tonal versatility.

Honestly, I disliked the tone fusion with my PJ. I find the two pickups in parallel is plenty scooped. Any more scoop and it just gets way too quiet.
