Dingwall Owners Club

Maybe Tech@dingwallguitars can help you out with drawing it out.

still sounds like a ground to me. What else could it be? Where on the bridge pick up is it tied in ?

I didn't pull the pickup out yet to check that, but if I don't have luck with it tonight I'll check. A fellow TB'er who is knowledgeable on EMG is giving me some pointers and helping me diagnose my situation.

I love this place!

Sheldon commented a while ago that they aren't paying royalties anymore, now that the patent expired.
I also seem to remember hearing that Sheldon was still continuing to pay Novax royalties after the expiration….possibly due to Novax having lost some of his eye sight for a spell and was less able to craft instruments himself.

….that’s from deep in my injured brain fwiw so….

I don't know that I remember this backstory, but I do remember that he did honor the relationship longer than he had to. Of course, 12 years ago is a long time, so I'd assume that that's probably changed.

I thought the straight P tone was pretty sweet before. Now, so many awesome harmonics and undertones just came alive. Thanks again GK! Can’t wait to really push some air tomorrow night at rehearsal.

Has anyone here swapped necks between basses? I've been trying with little success to get a sound out of my fretless that I like, so I'm considering trying the fretless neck on the ABHS body. Any pitfalls to be aware of?

If they’ll bolt up I think you’ll be good to go. I know a few folks, 1 in particular, who has fretted and Fretless necks fit a Z and an SJ. These builds follow some pretty precise measuring and should line up.

What strings are you using? What sound are you going fit?

I want a more fretless sound, the 'mwah' I guess. It sounds too clean, sort of halfway between fretted and fretless. Yes, I'm crap at describing it.

It came with roundwounds, nickel I assume, F# to G. I've tried Payson nickels B to C and TI flats. I've rotated between all 3 sets several times now without getting quite what I'm after. I have 2 other fretless basses and like their sounds so perhaps I just don't like this instrument's particular voice.

I don’t Recall what electronics set up you have.

I have come to like the payson black daggers for strings. The payson flats were awesome also for that vibe.

It does seem the long scale Fretless is very well defined(no surprise). I’ve thought about changing pick ups and pre amp in mine but I’m actually quite happy with the sounds.
That said I also opted for the DRoc switch and I dig those settings for Fretless.

I’m really curious to put some SF2s in it and a glockenklang. Again though, I really appreciate the shaping available with the DG.

You know, maybe even some payson med lights might be a good fit for you on it?

I believe @eloann swappped the necks on his Super J and Super P (fretted and fretless)

It's got the Glock preamp and series/parallel switches.

Payson flats aren't currently available I discovered recently. What's the point of the coated strings?
