Dingwall Owners Club

F# is fun, but, about 3 weeks ago I finally took my F# AB1 back to drop-A. Kind of "over it", when it comes to that tuning and how it more or less wedges me into one flavor of EQ to really work well. Kudos to those that get a kick out of it, though!

my mindset is that i have the ability to own bases for each sonic whim. So i would rather a standard fiver… and a second f# bass. Then i have all my standard 4’s. I like to swap things up and have specialist tools.

Cause some days i want to play modern prog heavy metal with crushing distortion, and others i want to play Motown.

New Bass Day.

Spent some time drilling holes for new strap locks + wall mount, but finally this Dingwall NG2 joins my little practice corner. It's my first five-stringer, found it used with some light- to moderate wear for an OK price I think. Initial impression is that especially the series mode for the pickups is absolutely roaring. Precisely what I was looking for.

Congratulations and welcome to the club!

Nobody is gonna touch those beauties with that viscous guitar dog on duty!

Congratulations! The NG-2 is a killer bass. Installing Dunlop strap locks was the first mod for mine also.

Is the Z2/NG2 pickup setup an option on the D-Roc? I had asked about it for my AB1 and was told no from the shop, which is okay as the regular two pickuo arrangement sounds great to me.

The reason it can't be done on ABs is the neck joins right at the neck pickup.they probably don't have a CNC model that has body wood there and/or think it would be ugly.
Pretty sure they had a 2x Super J option for a year or two (which no one ever ordered). They might still do it upon request.

Guess what John Fox got in the mail today? Guess who's absolutely screaming on the inside? This guy right here. It wasn't due until sometime in August, and I had only just asked if we were still on track a week or two ago. Now for the arduous wait as it crosses the country.
Looks like he’s showing off your new baby.

I think that, around the first of September, I’ll be ready to email John Fox and get the ball rolling on ordering an NG3 6 in Black Forest Green, set up for F# standard right from Dingwall. A few months ago, I had asked Sheldon on a livestream if that would be a possible mod on a production bass, and he confirmed it could be done. I’m just about ready to pull that trigger.

It's a standard option on NGs, yeah. I don't have a 2020 or 2021 price sheet, but I think it used to have a small upcharge for it.

I'm kind of curious who they use for F# strings. I haven't kept up with Kalium, but over the past several years they've had a ton of issues getting strings to people (I may be out of date and maybe they have resolved this issue). Outside of Kalium and Payson, I don't personally know of another F# string -- I'm sure they're out there, I just need exposed to them :D
