After playing Dingwall, I've lost interest in any 5+ string bass that doesn't have a 37"-ish B string. I guess that narrows the playing field.

I did too for a long time.. but then I started to crave some variety with some iconic(in my brain) tones. Dingwall is my ultimate but if I ever sell my MM basses and spectors I’ll miss them. More so then some other “higher end” gear that I’ve had.
My bongo has a killer B but it’s very different obviously. Same for the Others. Definitely not the clean monstrosity of the Dingwalls

You could meet that half way and do Luminlay dots. I personally love the stuff, but if you're going for a simpler aesthetic that's totally an option too. Or you could do only luminlay side-dots.

He’s using the Neural DSP Quad Cortex.

A cheaper way to approach that tone is a Darkglass X7, which lets you low-pass the distortion so that it only distorts on the high end, and it lets you add a limiter on the lows. Which makes for a big fat, clean bottom and grinding top end.

I've got a Quad Cortex on order. I'm curious to find out all the things it can do and I'm pretty curious if it will make me leave my Noble DI at home when playing live

Problem is I’m currently in recovery mode after getting my bank account heavily abused by the recent inflation in travel costs. It was a summer of lots of flying and rental cars. Then, I have a couple other projects in mind (NG3 6 in F#, and a combustion 6 I want to get and have defretted) in line before I can start lining up anything custom. I still keep an eye on the used market, and if I’m ever able to swing a used super that appeals to me, I might wreck my current plans.

Tbh, i use the P-Pickup solo’d on my Super P/J like 95% of the time.
It’s nice to have to option to use both pickups in series or parallel, though.

I’m looking to replace my stock knobs on my NG with the Dingwall custom knobs that come on the Canadian models. They haven’t been in stock on the DW store in months, so looking at dealers.

The confusing part is that on the DW store, they say all knobs are 1/4” with shims for 6mm. However, dealers are listing 1/4” and 6mm knobs separately. No shims mentioned. Odd in and of itself. Anyway, I’m not sure which ones fit the NG. Anybody know?

So, uh, anyways… the NG knobs just pull off? I don’t see a set screw. Literally every bass I’ve owned in the last 25+ years had a set screw on the side. Lol. I typically break things if I don’t understand them before yanking on them.

I had the same idea, and posted here a while back about changing the knobs on my NG2 to the Canadian knobs. As suggested, I contacted Jason at Fret Nation, who told me the 6mm knobs were the right fit for the NG and Combustion models. I ordered five of them since the Dingwall store remains sold out, and they came last week while I was on vacation. Turns out the volume and tone control pots on my NG2 use the 6mm knobs, but the pickup selector switch has a fatter shaft that requires a 1/4" knob. Emailed Jason and he's sending me one 1/4" knob with a label to return the other one, so it's all good, but now I understand why Dingwall sells the 5 knob sets with shims to accommodate both 6mm and 1/4" pots.

And the stock knobs have a set screw, as do the replacements.

Awesome info. Was looking for this a while back. May I ask where you found the set screws on the stock knobs? I don’t see any from the outside like I normally do on basses.
