True. Exactly the way I feel now after a couple of weeks.The most fun part is that after playing your Dingwall for a few weeks, parallel frets will look crooked to you.

Received my D-roc Standard 5 string today.
It was worth the wait.
Build quality - flawless.
Weight - very comfortable at about 7lbs.
Balance - sits great on a strap & easy reach.
Bridge - love the new design / quick release string change.
Tuners - smooth & solid.
Fretwork - no sharp edges & all spot-on.
Gig bag - better protection than some hardcase I've owned.
Sounds - first foray into multiscale & now I "get" it - even tone / clarity / punch across whole fretboard. The 4 way switch is a superb feature.
Was a little worried about how I would adapt to the fan-frets ( as I have small hands ), but TBH a few hours and I've almost forgotten it's a multiscale.
In short............I'm a very, very happy bassist.

Whoa only 7 lbs? I wonder if that’s the norm. Might need to sell some stuff…

I look at a regular bass and it looks wrong to me now
Got on the scales without the bass, then with it.
Different was maybe closer to 7 & 1/2 lbs.
So I broke down and bought my first Dingwall. Based somewhat on the advice of the good folks here, I went with the AB1. It was the one from here in the Classifieds. Thanks to Jon (@Chaosreigns) for passing along this lovely beast for me to love. Can’t wait for her to arrive! Super stoked!!!

Yeah that flamed maple top was just the icing on the cake. Pushed it right over the edge.
Keeping the original is the idea, yep!
After a bit of exploratory surgery I realized that I am in business with internal routing allowing for moving the pickup back (or perhaps even adding a 3rd way in the future) with pre-drilled pilot holes for locating. I managed to trace the standard Combustion pickguard if anyone happens to be looking for that - and may get out the ol' exacto knife later this week if plan A doesn't pan out. (Still looking for that tracing of an NG2 pickguard to save someone scrolling time)
5string Dingwall strung E-C sounds legendary for chord melodies, tapping, and well... everything Dingwall's do.

Just an FYI - your bass' routing will allow Combustion OR NG2 pickups positions, but not 3 pickups together - not enough room. You'd need to route a bit to accommodate 3 of the EMG40-sized pickups - a few of us have done that....
that almost gives me an idea.... I’ve got an old school combination that I love to death but it weights a decent amount... maybe I’ll do some routing under the pickguard to shave a little weight lol
My D-Roc four-string (blue/purple like yours) is 8.06 using a handheld luggage scale.
AB1, but I prefer the AB necks, and the Canadian Dingwalls in general.
I’m just noticing how this has a very “Canadian Dingwall” looking bridge piece - nice! I wouldn’t have imagined that the “standards” had a bridge like that.

how AB necks differ from the others? I only have ABZ so that’s why curious. Thanks
I think they mean they prefer AB necks to the Combustion necks. All afterburners have the same neck as far as I know.
I also moved from an older Combustion to an ABZ and I was really shocked at how much better then neck shape felt on the ABZ
Been a really long time since I owned a trans-green Voodoo (miss it dearly) and I'm not normally a Thunderbird fan but yesterday the D-Roc caught my attention - I'd love to check one out (preferably when I can afford to!) That said, is it a good bass for metal?
Edit: I don't know what I'd do with a 7-8 lb. bass; I play a Conklin GT-7 (12-ish lbs) and my custom fiver is over 11 so I'm used to a little heft lol!

Hey Dingwall Fans, I am trying to find (newer, rounded) Dingwall 5-string pickup dimensions.
I’m trying to find the overall length, overall width and length of the “rectangular” section of the pickup without the rounded ends.
If anyone could help, it would be awesome!
