That is what I meant. Combustion/NG2 feel more chunky to me, even though it has a similar shape to the AB necks. Z necks are thinner.
the main difference between the AB like vs the combustion line is the FB radius. The AB is a compound radius. The profiles are very similar/“the same”. I have felt variation in the combustions from one neck to the next. Some slimmer and faster vs some feeling chunkier. I wonder if that has to do with the thickness of the FB attached?
The supers again have a different vibe(can’t remember stats but of course a shorter scale and wider spacing(5 string) is gonna be different)
The Z/Prima have a very different feel. A thinner flattened C shape and it’s very fast.

Damn. My heaviest (Carvin XB76WP) isn’t even 11 pounds, it’s 0.2 short of that. What’s your five made of?Been a really long time since I owned a trans-green Voodoo (miss it dearly) and I'm not normally a Thunderbird fan but yesterday the D-Roc caught my attention - I'd love to check one out (preferably when I can afford to!) That said, is it a good bass for metal?
Edit: I don't know what I'd do with a 7-8 lb. bass; I play a Conklin GT-7 (12-ish lbs) and my custom fiver is over 11 so I'm used to a little heft lol!

In keeping with the #1 unwritten rule here, I'll submit proof to the contrary (attached). My apologies for the thread derail, but this bass is really the main thing preventing me from justifying a higher-end bass purchase (and has done so for about a decade now). It's my main axe for the Christian metal band I'm in, and I'm playing a 7 string in the worship group I belong to (and I want a second 7 so I can keep one at church and one at home).
Eventually I'll be back in the "club" with another Dingwall - preferably a six string, like an older Voodoo Prima or something like that. If only he made a 7 - or maybe I could string up a 6er with a low F#, hmmm... Anyone done that?

My AB1 6 string is F#, B, E, A, D, G tuned. Was using Payson strings for it, but, need to find something new to use. Going to give Kalium one more shot based off a couple recent positive order experiences from others.
Covid has placed us all in a time warp - it was a year and a half ago the last time I got strings (Kalium's) and I don't feel the need to change them yet. I can't seem to grasp it's been that long. Anyway, I didn't have any issues - well, after not getting tracking for a week, I called (around 3 pm ET on a Friday afternoon) and talked to Skip, then they got sent out. Actually, every time I've called Skip was the one who answered. Let me know how it goes.

does anyone have a photo of the back of the hellboy? I am trying to figure out where I can seat a battery box on my D-Roc 4 to seat an 18v tone capsule... furthermore. does anyone know what the correct impedance of the tone capsule potentiometers are? I want to make a stacked mid knob and I don't know what the pots the tone capsule Eqs use. then I want to route the body for and extra pot (4 knob, 1 volume, 1 4 way, 1 lo/hi mid stack, 1 bass)

I mean, my Carvin is what I thought of as heavy. It earns that weight, though, by the body being almost entirely walnut (apart from a thin accent layer), and the neck-through being almost entirely maple (just two stripes of walnut in its five-piece construction). I suspect that the relatively narrow neck accounts for a lot of the weight difference between mine and his.That's no bass...that's furniture.
Per DG’s FAQ, the Tone Capsule comes with 50k linear center detent pots. They recommend a stacked pot from Best Bass Gear.
That's an awesome idea, thanks! If I have to go the "full custom" path, I'll definitely keep that in mind as a possibility. I thought the pickups looked pretty standard shaped but didn't realize they were EMG40 sized.
Haven't had any luck with a tracing between here or the Dingwall group on FB, so here's to fingers crossed.
Looks like someone bought that Z3 out of Australia that has been on Reverb and FB. What a lovely bass! I am sure the new owner will love it and I don’t have to daydream about ways to get it.
Really impressed with the new one piece bridge on the Import D-roc 5 strings. I was never a fan of solo bridge rails so the switch to this new unit pleased me greatly.
A nice bonus was the top loading of strings ( rather than thru the back ) with the ball-ends hooking in behind the bridge pieces.

I had not been paying attention to these enough to see the bridge change! I wonder if the other instruments will get this bridge too?
I'd love to see a similar bridge used on the 4 string D-roc.
