Dingwall Owners Club

Very new to Dingwall basses. Can somebody help me understand new pricing? I don't think I saw it on the website (???) How much (base price) is a new Afterburner I?
Typically you work with your local dealer who have a full price list. Some dealers will send it along to interested individuals, though I'm not sure that's exactly a thing that should happen :).

Last I knew, going back a few years now, a base AB1 5 string was $3000 US.

Fretnation.com has a Dingwall builder on their website. Highly recommend him!

or Michael Lomax at lomax bass or Jason at Fretnation

I was able to to sit down and watch Sheldon's talk all the way through. While playing my Super P. It was a great way to spend and hour and a half.

Trying to beat the new out of that .033 TI flat, getting the oils and funk worked in. The Super P sounds so good with TI's.

Like to wish Sheldon a happy 60th birthday!

Off to look up Sheldon's book suggestion.

The best colour option in my opinion.
Enjoy it.
Agree. I also ordered a matching Italia strap for it.

I might be getting a spot in line and speccing out a 4 string Super PJ; currently finding out if the spot is actually available. Some things I am pondering:

I am pretty sure that I have never owned a Maple Neck & FB + Ash Body bass prior to this Z. The attack on the notes is so gloriously snappy + the bass has great grind (maybe even more grind passive - it has the DG pre). I have had Wenge Neck + FB basses that have had those elements as well but the bodies were different woods than Dingwall offers. I believe that Dingwall recommends Alder with Wenge. I believe the 2 Dingwalls I least bonded with ever were Alder bodies (both years ago: an AB "1.5" w/blueq and a gen 1 Combustion but in it's defense - I was probably just wanting a Canadian after having a taste) but they were not Wenge necks. I have had 2 Dingwalls with Wenge necks and I really dug them both: an AB2 6 string with Walnut body and a D Bird Custom with Khaya (African Mahogany) body.

Anyone have any experience on Wenge + Alder that they wouldn't mind sharing? I like present mids so I bet this combo will be solid but I am wondering if Maple + Ash is my secret sauce and I never knew it.

Do you think a Walnut body could be conjured up for a Super PJ? Don't see it listed as an option but pretty sure a few Walnut bodied Supers are out there.

I haven't even gotten around to thinking about the bridge pickup options yet.

i’m not 100% sure, but I think any walnut body supers that I have seen have been SJ exotics.

I certainly have not tried all of the wood combinations in a super P, but I’ve tried several. So far my favorite is the alder/maple/maple. It’s got a very nice liveliness to it — with plenty of upper frequency content that I did not hear with some of the other wood combinations; this can be rolled off as desired.

they did used to do some walnut in the super series but I’m not sure if it’s still an option. As WP mentioned it was an Exotic on the one I had. Walnut body and neck

This thing is sounds really great. Big and open. Thumpy. Sits strong in a mix.

Galactic is half Alder body on the high end with wenge neck/maple FB. It is very bright and responsive. I’d say it is quite focused with an immediate attack, Much like my SP(not sure on body wood, Neck is wenge/wenge. it can really snarl. But it is a tight focus’d snarl. Definitely more modern id say in comparison to my maple instruments.

the new to me Voodoo with ash body, maple neck and PF FB(Bart pups) has a more classic vibe. The neck pup does a really sweet P sound. It’s a softer, rounder sound then the others. Could be pick up related I assume but it does have that vintage instrument kind of vibe.

My SJ is alder body, wenge neck/ Zirocote FB. I’d say it’s a very balanced instrument. Not too snappy. I think the Zirocote is a bit tamer then Maple. It’s a very clean instrument. I wired the pick ups in series to give it a bit more. I’m on a path right now with getting snarl outta my instruments and I’d say this combo with the FD3 is the cleanest Dingwall I have. The least Metal!!! Lol. It can do a burpy/ clean slap J vibe(as intended) it does do decent neck P vibe but I’m curious to put a P tone in there and see how she sounds.

they definitely are like a big shiny metal genre tunes cover band of lots of the music I grew up on. Listened for a sec and heard some slipknot and deftones.
Lol.

Bizkit park or Limp Lincoln? Hehe
Dude me and my wife spent the whole set screaming/singing every song. The kids look extremely confused/ slightly frightened right now hahaha

Honestly they did an amazing job! The singer was able to nail or come damn close on every song. That's a massive pallet to handle!

Nice! I could imagine so. Chino wouldn’t be an easy vocalist to replicate amongst many other styles in one set

So when I got my AB1, the seller told me the strings were dead and I’d probably want to put on new ones. I thought it sounded really good as it was and I had to wait for the new strings to arrive so I’ve been playing it with old strings the last couple days. Got the strings today and I just restrung it with Dingwall Steels and holy cow! Crushing tone!

Exactly what I was hoping for. I thought I might be missing out a little by getting a passive Dingwall, but wow. Having never owned a multi scale bass before I didn’t realize how much more sustain you can get out of the 37” B string. Totally impressed. :bassist:

I’ve STILL yet to even get a multi scale bass in my hands. Been extremely curious about them for a decade now.

Being that there weren't any around to play, it was a leap of faith when I ordered my first one fourteen years ago (custom Afturburner I for less money than an import!). Never looked back.

Like spirit said, they used to be less expensive. Good chance you could grab one, find out what you think, and resell it without a loss depending what you get.

assuming you want to sell it to get into a nicer one of course
