Two basses I will drool for (the first two in the video) - AB2 Fretless and a Candy Tangerine Sklar
That AB2 fretless has my DAS going again, even though my AB1 is still in the queue to be built. Once I recover from the pending hospital visit that gets induced from my wife seeing the AB1 once it’s here, I’ll need time to sneak in an order for a fretless like that one.

This was awesome! I really like that Energetic Feedback Loop @Sheldon D.
The Energetic Feedback Loop isn't just for gigs: I think back to the first time I contacted Dingwall, by phone, in 2003..I was calling with a problem (failed pickup) but Sheldon greeted me like a personal friend.

Of course he sorted out the problem immediately and took great care of me.
I got a working pickup and a set of strings out of that call.
But what he (and his company) got was a customer for life, and he also received some useful feedback about a way that one of his basses had (temporarily) stopped performing to expectations -- which allowed him to continue to improve his product.
Contrast that with some builders who greet any issue as an insult and existential threat that must be squashed - no wonder their products aren't evolving!

But Dingwall basses have been the product of positivity, intelligence, and openness since day 1, and that's why they just keep getting better.

Back from my first rehearsal with the D-roc 5 string.

Guitarist & drummer both said that I'm better in the mix, lots punchier and retaining a proper sonic "thump" even though the mids/upper mids were cutting through.

I found it so very easy to play and move around the neck. As for the comfort......up there with the best if them. Great weight/balance and hangs fantastic on a strap.

Now my main instrument.

NDD! The Afterburner arrived today! What a fabulous bass! So glad I finally was able to get one!

Man, all of this talk of Fretless Dingwalls and 6 strings has tapped into the DAS I have been fending off.

First things first, I think I am going to look for a build slot for a 4 string Purple Super PJ. I was originally coming back to Dingwall to try out a Super Series bass or two. Still not sure how I ended up with this Z but I am grateful that’s how it has gone.

The Z has me thinking of a 6 string (someday). The only 6 string that I have ever really bonded with was a Walnut AB2.

I have a really cool Stradi fretless bass. So far, it isn’t feeling weird like my fretted mono scale Basses are after picking up a Dingwall, again. But if it does…IDK (edit: yeah, had a nice quick session with it, not in danger. A different instrument really)

I just listed a bass that will fund about 60% of the PJ. Maybe I can be paying for that spot in a week or two

Glad you liked it! Are you sure about the 7 lbs weight? The one which is on the way to me was the lightest available at the store at that moment and is 8,7 lbs, all the rest being heavier than 9 lbs. Mine is also blue/purple shift.

Got in the scales again, slightly different results, probably nearer to 8 & 1/2lbs. I'm blaming the scales LOL.
Still a nice comfy weight though :)

Great! Mine is about the same. In a couple of weeks I hope to get it, it’s already shipped from UK :)

Stupid question, can someone point me to the specifics of the glockenklang preamp ?
Like potentiometer values, shaft diameter, etc.
I'm sure it has been addressed 10 times already but my google-fu sucks apparently.

Audio-related info is not needed since the goal would be to replace it anyway :)
Thanks in advance !

Not bad, right? There a good substitute. Con? Expensive.

Yes, they are great. Not bad at all!

Update on the C3/flats: after a few hours of playing yesterday, I took them off the C3 and threw them on the NG3... big difference! Much more my style, Alder has always been my go-to anyway. The ash combustion sounds fantastic but that bass speaks best with rounds IMO. In my hands at least, lol.

EDIT: can anyone give me a measurement of the distance from the top of the body to the top of the fretboard on an Afterburner 5? Measuring on the bass side. It seems like the Z has the fretboard more flush to body. Do all AB's have the same distance? I'm used to having a PG or a deeper neck pocket, I find anchoring my thumb gets weird when it's a big gap from string to body.
