Like others, I bought my NG-3 6 string sight unseen, and had never even picked up a multiscale before. Best leap of faith I’ve ever made. I own other basses (the usual suspects), but Dingwall is my #1 and I don’t see that changing. I now have an NG-3 5 string and pulled the trigger on ordering a Canadian AB1. YMMV, but I’m more than glad I took the chance.

8.57 lbs. So glad I pulled the trigger. It's everything I hoped it was.
The imports are a great way to get into Dingwalls. I started with an NG3 4 string, a Combustion 5 one week later and then a DBird thanks to @EMoneySC2.
The current DRoc's are usually the most affordable way in. There's a few on Reverb that are $1500 which is pretty good given current prices on these.
We'll last night was the first gig using my new D-roc Standard 5 string at our zombie-inspired Halloween gig at a local brewery.
After only having the bass for a few days I took the plunge and decided to use it for all of both sets. Only made one or two minor errors during the whole gig, so I must be getting use to a multiscale neck.
Sound wise.......... utterly awesome. Commented on by many for its defined mids, zingy highs, crushing lows and overall clarity in the mix.
Wish I'd set the stage lighting a little better, as I wasn't getting much direct light on the bass ( hence the darkish pics ), but my first live Dingwall experience was superb.

I had my first gig with the NG3 yesterday. Compared to the Combustion w/DGTC, the Alder is WAY more my style. I had to try one of each to see what fit me best. The new TI flats sounded great but tore my fingers up after 3 hours. Much different than my usual Sadowsky flats. Feelin 'em today, lol..
I didn't tell the BL I was bringing the NG3. We were at a private party, about 4 songs in the set he said "hey the bass sounds great, have I seen that before"?
awww yeah.. just slid that puppy in and it fits like a glove. Sounds amazing through my Mesa gear too.Gonna add the reach extender pin. With the bass around "normal" playing height for me, the position of the pins seem to make the bass want to "roll" inwards. Kinda lifting the lower half of the body up. When I found the hanging height that doesn't do that, a little strain was happening on my left wrist. Need to fix that.

I just always found his drumming extremely tasteful, and since I have a drumkit here I tried many times to duplicate his feeling - for the moment it just hasn't been possible unfortunately.
Technically it's not super complicated, but it's very hard to make it feel groovy and not super robotic, I wasn't able to pull it off yet.
I should work on my drumming more, it's such a fantastic instrument ..

I know what you mean, it can be hard to replicate someone else’s groove. Not just play the lines.

Only alder and wenge fingerboard (maple neck). It sounds like good advice!
I think in this case, I'd very much defer to the experts -- in this case, Dingwall's crew. Folks here can offer their anecdotes, but, Dingwall builds hundreds and imports thousands each year and would have the data and experience over a broad sample set to steer you in the best direction. My main bass is a mix of Ash/Alder body and wenge neck/Maple fingerboard. I’d say the ash and wenge have noticeable effects.
What sound are you going for? What style of music are you playing?
bare in mind Dingwall does build a lot of Zs with Ash bodies and wenge necks… as well as many other combos.

My latest Z is exactly this, and, it certainly doesn't feel or sound midscooped at all, even in passive mode
.I think one thing to keep in mind maybe, due to the very nature of Dingwall basses, they are much more harmonically rich than legacy monoscale instruments. So while XYZ Dingwall may be "mid scooped" compared to ABC Dingwall, I'd posit that the natural harmonics popping out counteract that to a rather substantial degree. Again, IMO etc.
FWIW, I found that the extender pin was helpful but it was little challenging to reach the wee-upper portions of the fretboard. As long as stayed in “the money area” I was fine.
So, I actually reverted back the other way. I’ve “learned” to shift the bass to the right for the lower registers and shift it left for the higher registers. 2nd nature to me now.
The main thing is figuring out what works for you!

I have two ash/wenge Dingwalls a Super P and ABZ and for me the combination is just right. Neither bass lacks mids at all.
I’ll add that I’ve played and owned alder bodied Dingwalls and they never really worked for me. I no longer own any alder basses at all
