Dingwall Owners Club

FWIW, I found that the extender pin was helpful but it was little challenging to reach the wee-upper portions of the fretboard. As long as stayed in “the money area” I was fine.

So, I actually reverted back the other way. I’ve “learned” to shift the bass to the right for the lower registers and shift it left for the higher registers. 2nd nature to me now.

The main thing is figuring out what works for you! :bassist:

I've tried to simulate where it would hang based on the John Fox video and I see can where you are coming from. Really, if the pin was more centerline to begin with, I would probably be able to snug it up to my body a little more. That said, I'd rather not add a second pin on the end, the flush mount on the back seemed like a double bonus when i tried to guestimate how it would hang. Maybe not?

I’m just going to sit here and read more informed people’s opinions. My only wenge neck is on a mahogany body. With a 2TEK bridge. And Lace pickups. I’ve got no freaking idea what any given part contributes what to the tone on that thing.

I have two ash/wenge Dingwalls a Super P and ABZ and for me the combination is just right. Neither bass lacks mids at all.

I’ll add that I’ve played and owned alder bodied Dingwalls and they never really worked for me. I no longer own any alder basses at all
I like Ash and Wenge myself.

Dingwall cats what’s up! Spec’ing a custom J build…Dwall’s tell’n me if I want a wenge neck and board go with alder body…wenge mid scooped, alder not. Ash (natural ❤️) mid scooped + wenge = too mid scooped. Any experience with wenge + ash?
Hi Tim! Dingwall told me the same thing, but I decided to go with an ash body anyway, because I like the grain a lot better haha. If you want, I can send you some links with raw DI tracks for you to listen.

I thought that going with a bit of mid scoop wouldn't be a band thing considering that a P is pretty mid heavy anyway and I haven't had any issues with mix presence or clarity so far.
It might be a bit different for a J, but @MDBass had an ash/wenge SJ 3x for a while. Maybe he can chime in :)

I am loving the TI flats on my NG2. Gave them a few days to settle in, and the truss rod needed a quarter turn to eliminate some buzzing on the lower frets. But the sound is as massive as that TI B string, and I can still get plenty of different tones with the Darkglass pre and pedals. The Canadian Dingwalls are gorgeous and I still want to try some to see how the necks differ from the NG/Combustion, but I'm really happy with what I have at the moment. I will be heading to Ontario in December to visit my wife's relatives north of Toronto, and I hope to have time to find a music store in Toronto with some Canadian Dingwalls in stock. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I’d speculate the markham long and Mcquade store is your best bet but they aren’t readily stocked anywhere in Canada as a norm. You’d be better off trying to arrange with a TB member

I've always loved TI's, but found the tension just a bit too low for my tastes. I realize it's very subjective, but how is the tension with the extended scale length?

I'm probably not the best person to ask, because TI flats are my favorite strings and I've never had an issue with the tension. But I have them on three other basses (two EBMM and one Fender) and the tension seems about the same on the NG.

Thanks, that appears to be the case. L&M website shows 5 Dingwalls in stock, all Combustions and NGs. My local dealer (Jive Sound in Alexandria, VA) had three NGs when I went in a few months ago. Then they had two because I bought the other one.

I wouldn’t believe anything on the L&M website to do with Dingwalls, just drop the Markham store an email and ask what they have in stock.
Not aware of any other places in Ontario where you’ll find one so as Nate said you may have more luck on this thread.

Wow, pickup height makes such a difference with the Combustion and NG3. I set the G to 1/8" like Sheldon recommends and then I thought 5/32 was good for the B. Worked fine at my gig Saturday.

Just to try it out, I dropped the bass side to 6/32 and the E and B seem clearer and more even. Dare I say louder or is that just the clarity coming through? Much more balanced from string to string.

I'm still blown by how many different sounds I can get out of the rotary + eq. The DGTC works so good in both of these.

No harm in adding an extended reach pin! It is a bonus feature that adds value to the instrument. You may use it more than you think (or not).

John Fox's video was certainly helpful and eased my mind when drilling into the Dingwall!

add some switches and the 6 way and it seems endless!
