Man, you guys have some amazing basses. 
I recorded a short clip with the NG3 and the TI flats. Rotary is neck + bridge parallel. A little bass boost, slight low mid cut, a little more on the high mid. This is straight from the bass into a Scarlett V1 2i2 with a little compression. If you would have told me two weeks ago I could get a tone like this with a maple fretboard, the extra scale length, and a Darkglass preamp of all things I would have told you to get help.

Sounds super round and tubby (not to be confused with tubey). Surprised. I’ve yet to hear recordings (that I know of) of a Dingwall that wasn’t super aggressive in the upper Mids with Darkglass or similar crunch goin on other than that one dude that plays that older red NG2 5 on their YouTube page (who’s tone is INCREDIBLE imo). This sounds great though man. REALLY really dig this. Round. That’s the best word I can come up with.Man, you guys have some amazing basses.

That sounds great! I'm also curious about the TI flats as I can't stand how low tension they are on a 34" instrument. Do they have more tension on a Dingwall?Man, you guys have some amazing basses.

You need to look up more videos of Lee Sklar (literally one of the most impressive session/touring basses of all time) and Claudio Rocha, who I assume you're referencing.
I will pile on here and repost my Michael McDonald bass cover from a few months ago. Played it with my ABZ in a pretty metal-tilted spec but it was the ticket to capture Louis Johnson’s Stingray tone. That these basses work well for metal doesn’t preclude them working exceptionally well for other genres too!

Sorry to derail but you must prefer your Cali to the UAD 1176's. Do you notice a significant difference?

you said, “String” . That was enough for me to have an, “Oh yeah” moment. It reminded me that I’ve had 2 B strings that sounded kinda like they had loose threads or something. It’s a weird sound to describe but it reminds me of a Bow string with vibration dampeners on it when released.

Agree. That's a deep throaty tone. Think that is the neck (or middle I guess) pickup he's using?

I’ve yet to hear my D-Roc Standard 5 which is now on the way to me but I must say that my ABZ 5 is probably the most organic sounding bass I’ve ever owned. The winner. Not a heavy music style oriented tone at all. Three modes of pickups switch allows to mimic J bass, P bass and MM tone with perfect clarity. Three basses in one! I only need my D-Roc as a different shape alternative to my ABZ and as a “budget”bass for club gigs.
I enjoy playing it unplugged as well as it has very natural response. Wenge fingerboard and banjo frets do the job.
@AB Nate A quick question before I finally install my 6-way. The tab that would protrude towards the knob, on the housing plate. You just bent that flat with pliers, yes? That’s how it appears, and I just want to make sure I’m not missing any details before I perform electronic surgery on my beautiful NG3 tomorrow.
Correct. I was in no way gonna chance blasting through by drilling a hole for it despite having the tools. Not much meat left on the face behind the cavity.
